HelloHalo 1 Jul, 2024 @ 1:48pm
The reason why there is a NAM (Network Addon Mod) for Mac but not for Linux can be attributed to historical factors, user base considerations, and technical challenges. The decision to discontinue the NAM package for Mac OS X was made due to various complexities associated with the Aspyr OS X port of SimCity 4 Deluxe and the challenges faced by Mac users in running custom content like the NAM. The removal of Rosetta by Apple in OS X Lion further complicated matters, making it difficult for Aspyr’s SC4 port users to run the game smoothly on Intel Macs.

On the other hand, Linux users have found alternative ways to run the Windows version of SimCity 4 with the NAM using tools like WINE. This has provided a viable solution for Linux users who wish to access custom content like the NAM without facing the same level of technical obstacles experienced by Mac users.

Therefore, while there is a NAM available for Mac users again since July 2014, the decision to support Linux users through alternative means like WINE has likely influenced why there isn’t a dedicated NAM package specifically tailored for Linux.
interesting hopefully night dive can remaster both bring them back, if they acquire the rights

HelloHalo's reply to your thread is about something called Network Addon Mod for Sim City 4. It's a chatgpt generated response that he copypasted to you. It has nothing to do with the game NAM or the game WW2 GI.
o…weird well think its maybe cuz ww 2 & nam are older games & they added a linux port after windows before the age of all device porting we've seen before.
thx.
I would also like to see another nam or past history build engine game, with updated graphics in a more aesthetically pleasing engine or retro feel.👍🏻

Just ignore the answer from HelloHalo. It is a incorrect copy-pasted response of ChatGPT. It is about a package called NAM for SimCity 4.

The real answer: It is possible to play this game on macOS. There are two ways to get it running:

- Get a copy of EDuke32 or Raze and run it with that. The latest version of one of those source ports would be fine. (although it looks like there is a bug with the morale in Raze, at this time of writing)

- Use the macOS version of DOSBox to run it. This is quite tricky to get to work and also it will run the original version unmodified. This means, no wide-screen or other modern changes. Also, there is a bug in the game with the button W. You cannot shoot sometimes after pressing W. Easiest solution is to not use the W button at all or to use one of the source ports (EDuke32 or Raze).
