Letter Quest: Grimm's Journey Remastered

Other languages besides english?
Pretty obvious really - is there any way or plan to get other languages for this game?

My 6y boy would love to play this, but as english isnt his main language its kinda iffy. If there was say finnish dictionary available, i wouldnt even mind paying for it as DLC - although some open free wiki thing would be the best ofcourse ;)

Hmm.. just thinking about it, this could be a great way to practice foreign languages in general. but yea, same problem here with german :)

These developers respect copyright so they can't just copy/paste any dictionary to their games. It is expensive to use dictionaries and because of that this game only uses some cheap/free dictionaries that are not perfect. There are plenty of modern English words that this game does not recognise because those are missing from the cheap/free dictionaries.

Problem with the different languages is that the developers should then make different score systems for each language. For example K is a rare letter in English and because that you get really many points when you are using K. But in other languages it is a common letter and then it would be stupid that you would get really many points for using K.

Also many Achievements should be different at the other language versions. For example Y is a vowel in many languages but in English Y can be a consonant and a vowel. Because of that Y is not counted as a vowel in this game.

Also they should then translate the whole game to another language and that can be too expensive to do professionally. There already is too many badly translated games on Steam.

A "professional" translation isn't a guarantee for a correct translation unless the translator is certified.
Once I was part of a team who translated content for a MMORPG into german (work was fully paid). After a few weeks they asked me to do corrections aswell. You wouldn't believe the nonsense some "professional translators" are producing - taking notice, they were actually native speakers....

So on that part I'd say, translations provided for free (by humans tho, no google machine etc) should be okay in general.

An adjustment to the point system.. I believe this also could be done via workshop.

Achievements can't really be changed, but considering, in other games you can manipulate them so easily, I'd just deal with this.
(Example: Torchlight 2 - mods; Stanley Parable - change date on PC for the 2y achievement; etc etc)

Anyway, would be great, if - after almost 2 months now - one of the devs could actually say sth to this.

To sum up: it would be expensive (both money and time-wise), and would require a custom version of the game for each language (unique tile art, reworking the entire balance of the game per language, etc.). As such, it is highly unlikely that full translations of the game will ever happen.

However, I have mentioned before that there's a small possibility of someday adding translations of the tutorial and in-game text (store, quests, achievements, stats, etc.), but leaving the game's letter tiles and dictionary in English. This would mean that players would need to be able to spell words in English, but all instructions in the game would be in their native language. I'm not sure if it would be used by anyone or if it's even a good idea, but it's something I might look into at some point if I can find the time.

I'm sorry, but Bookworm (which have same gameplay) is in several language and work perfectly ...

...just leave chance for modding and im sure eventually some enthusiasts will take care of it...

Exactly. There's so much possible nowadays when community is included..
Just to look at other examples, to begin with minecraft, torchlight 2, banished, Skyrim(!) ... These are actually games which have so much possible content, other games (w/o modder communities) will never have.

Here is a little research on google to find list of word in french with % of use:

I think it's a good start for include it in the game... I think it was possible to find a list of caracters and % of utilisation of it in french, but certainly for most language too ;)

With these tables, I think it's more easy to make the game more distribuable for other languages :D

I pray for (even-semi) French translation on this beautiful game :clowney:
The partial translation raised by the dev would be nice to start with. Then I'm pretty sure the community could assist in getting the core gameplay aligned to other languages.

I think it's fine just to have it in English. Other languages have accents or diacritics - in French alone, you have normal 'e', e acute, e grave, e circonflexe - that's already 4 vowels.

Same with a - you have normal 'a', a grave, a circonflexe - 3 vowels.
o has normal 'o', o circonflexe - 2 vowels.
u has normal 'u', u circonflexe - 2 vowels.

Altogether, that's 3 A's, 4 E's, 1 I, 2 O's, 2 U's - 12 vowels already.

C also has a cedille version - so 2 C's.

So in it's entirety, you'd need 12 vowels and 22 consonants = 36 different tiles.
English only requires 26.
