A HD 5870 is alot weaker than the r9 270. And gtx 660 is as fast as the r9 270. Whether your son can play this game is something we can't answer concretely. But if he can play Unity then he should be able to play this game. In fact, here is a video of someone playing Unity with HD 5870:
