The Darkside Detective is a point-and-click adventure game aimed primarily at... well, people like me. I’m talking about those who grew up in the '80s and '90s, who will appreciate the countless references, and who fondly remember the golden age of LucasArts games. The game is charming, funny, not too challenging, and perfect to play with a cup of coffee in hand.

The Darkside Detective is a point-and-click adventure game where you play as Detective Francis McQueen investigating 9 weird supernatural cases in the city of Twin Lakes, often with his partner Officer Patrick Dooley. It's not a serious game, with many comedic moments between the two officers and the people they meet with. It definitely took inspiration from small-town mysteries such as Twin Peaks and Gravity Falls, though more towards the latter due to its tone.

Gameplay is the usual finding items, combining, and using them. One thing I like about this game is that most, if not all, items that can be used in the case can be picked up anytime, not only when the story requires it. This eliminates backtracking and re-clicking too often. Though you still should click on any item you can, usually there are funny comments or pop culture references.

Length-wise the cases aren't very long, only took somewhere between half-hour to an hour to complete with the exception of the very short case 8. The length is perfect in my opinion, my only complaint is that some item usage and combinations can be confusing and unusual. But if you enjoy point-and-click detective games, you should definitely give The Darkside Detective a try.

The game is deceptively simple, being a point and click game for the most part. Yet you do need to think the cases through, while enjoying the game's humor. The writing in the game is amazing, and well worth the price (especially as it goes on sale often). All in all, it's a short yet sweet game. Highly recommend.
