DualSense controller no longer working after latest Steam update
Hi Friends
As the title says.
What do I do?

Also, if I may contribute a little.
Since the gamepad is not working, I tried the keyboard and suddenly the Dash isn't working, the C key.
What I did was change it to W and it was working, then changed back to C and I could Dash again.

Getting back to DualSense, any tips?

This is usually the solution to controller issues :

I used the Hollow Knight Beta 1.2.2.1 (I think ?) and all is well now.

Thank you

That's an older version of the game, with one or two major updates missing from the current version, one of which was a content update, so that might not be ideal.
(The last version available in the betas menu that contained extra stuff is the 1.4.3.2 version.)

Unfortunately version 1.4.3.2 renders my DualSense controller unusable again. I'm thinking maybe I should've bought an xbox controller instead, or a Logitech

And the fix i linked above didn't work in your case?

My apologies, I should have mentioned in my original post that I'm using Linux, not Windows or Mac.

The link you provided seems to offer solutions for Windows and Mac only?

Thank you

Oh. I'd forgotten that the fix didn't have links for Linux.

I re-read your original post, and actually registered that your controller previously worked until a Steam update.
The last time i saw such a description, i believe the issue was caused by some issue with Steam Input configuration resetting or something.
Point is, have you tried messing with Steam Input? (Library -> Right-click on game -> Properties -> Controller)
Yes I think I've tried almost every combination there is:

Playstation Controller Support - Enabled / Not Enabled
Enable Steam Input / Disable Steam Input

etc.

Nothing works except when I play the Beta 1.2.2.1

Right now I'm not sure which rendered my DualSense controller useless - Hollow Knight update or Steam update

Apparently Hollow Knight is supposed to be able to recognize that controller?

Did you try to change the Native Controller Input setting within Hollow Knight? I don't use controller, so i completely forgot it exists :

It should work natively, so best to try with Steam Input OFF and set Native Controller Input to OFF (HK main menu > Options > Controller > Native Controller Input, reset the game after changing that setting).

thanks for all your help. i've tried everything, nothing works. I've resigned to playing with keyboard.

anyway, I've got a new problem.

I'm getting SAVE CORRUPTED. The backup files are no where to be found - not in my hard drive, not on steamcloud. Looks like a hopeless case. I've reached out to customer service, will wait for their response but I doubt they would be able to help.

What about your save file? Can you find it?

And did you progress much since the time where you transferred your save file?

what do the save files look like? are they not the .dat files?

the .dat files are gone. like they were deleted. I certainly did not delete any save or back up files
Perseus 26 Nov @ 9:22am
The save files are called "userX.dat", where X is the save slot number, yes. Where/how did you look for them?

Also, are you playing using Proton? I remember being confused about it, and i still don't know.

Since I'm playing on Linux operating system, I believe this should be the directory where the .dat files are located

/home/user/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/367520/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/LocalLow/Team Cherry/Hollow Knight

Only one file is left there:

steam_autocloud.vdf

That's it, nothing else.

By the way, this is the customer service response I got:

"We are sorry to hear that.

However, Steam Support is not able to rollback or restore any deleted or lost cloud saves as the Steam Cloud does not provide backups of previous versions of data stored in the Cloud or data that has been deleted from the Cloud.

The Steam Cloud FAQ has more information on how the Steam Cloud works as well as a troubleshooting section that can help ensure that your machine is in a good state for any further usage of the Steam Cloud."

What a bummer.

This may be the last time I'm buying from Steam lol

That's the Proton filepath. If you're still using Proton, then this would be where your save files are located.
However, if you aren't using Proton anymore, then your save files should be located at
$XDG_CONFIG_HOME/unity3d/Team Cherry/Hollow Knight/
$XDG_CONFIG_HOME is probably a configuration folder whose name can be different on different Linux distributions, at least that's what this makes it seem like. On my computer, for example, the folder is called .config, so the complete filepath is .config/unity3d/Team Cherry/Hollow Knight/

Since HK says your save file is corrupted (as opposed to completely missing), you'll probably find your save files in the regular, non-Proton location.

(This is why i was asking if you were using Proton or not.)
(Also, i assume you know how to try to load the backups?)
