Can anyone assist? I'm trying to play with a controller after using the mouse and keyboard briefly.

All I'm doing is the Training mission currently but when using the controller I CANNOT TURN THE SHIP WHATSOEVER? Why is the dpad not working? Thrust and boost works, the buttons work, but I can't turn or fly the ship?

This is really aggravating, as I cannot understand what I am missing.,
