I found something really strange

I encountered a strange alien race that I have never encountered before, nor have I seen any game play featuring this alien race before, but it appears to be an organic ship of some kind and is highly aggressive:

Oh yes, they are indeed... A thing.
They are alluded to by various alien interactions, e.g. when the Logos talk about "Hunger", that's them. Also various mentions of dragons
Their messages are substitution encoded.
There is a wiki entry on them containing all the info and lore, if you get tired of playing the game without putting all the threads together.
