Blender
i tried maya... and i still prefer blender
This is just my personal take, so don’t get your panties in a twist. I gave Autodesk Maya a shot, and honestly? It didn’t blow my mind. Compared to Blender, Maya feels unnecessarily complex and hard to grasp, especially at the beginning. If you’re a die-hard Blender user, switching to Maya might feel like jumping into a pool of mud—confusing, messy, and not worth the hassle unless you’re working in high-end studios like Disney.

Let’s be real—Maya isn’t trash; it just isn’t for everyone. You need to pay for it (yeah, that stings), and unless you’ve got enough money and a beast of a computer to run it smoothly, you’re probably better off sticking with Blender. Blender is free, runs on budget rigs, and doesn’t leave your bank account sobbing in a corner.

Now, credit where it’s due: Maya’s rigging and animation tools are undeniably good. Hell, they’re even better than Blender’s in some respects. The workflow feels reminiscent of Source Filmmaker (SFM), which I’ve used for animation. If you’re into animating, Maya might feel like a solid upgrade from SFM—it’s easier to use for rigging and animation. But there’s a catch: SFM doesn’t let you create models directly, so you’ll need third-party software for that or rely on the Workshop for assets.

In conclusion, I’d only recommend Maya if animation is your main gig, and even then, it’s only worth it if you’ve got the cash and hardware to make it sing. Otherwise, stick with Blender—it’s free, versatile, and gets the job done. And if you’re just dabbling in animation for fun, Source Filmmaker is still a great, simple option.
also i am not profesional in blender, maya or sfm this is just my opinion.

What's even worse than using Maya just for modelling & texturing, with only the most rudimentary rigging of vehicles, is being made to do it on Maya 2011, when the year was 2021 I always used Modo for modelling and exported it to the App, Maya in that case, using Lightwave before that, because Max & Maya poly tools were awful IMO. Now I use Blender for the reasons above - mainly because it is free, but does what I want, can be modified to cope with larger screens without messing about with Windows scaling, and because it has become so much more usable since V 2.8 hit.
Look at how much Maya or any other commercial app has improved in that time - it is minimal. Blender is positively leaping ahead in comparison.
