In store purchases???
I hope this is not like the android version with instore purchases. That would be a definite deal breaker for me.

Yes I agree, the android version was ruined by greedy in app purchases. It had great potential as a mobile game and the art style was really very nice. I'd suspect they will release onto pc without IAP's, because frankly that nonsence won't fly with PC gamers.

Loaded with IAP's. Stay well clear.

The PC version is?

How much are they and what do they buy?

There are no in app purchases in the Steam version. At all.

The game has been reworked and rebalanced to be a full "premium" game (if that's what they call it nowadays).

Funny, judging by the reviews all that's happened if your claims are correct is that you possibly removed the ability to -make- purchases but left the economy that is still the IAP grindfest that pervaded the mobile version.

That doesn't make it any better, it just makes it unpleasant to play. .dj's review makes it painfully clear what the situation is, even if it's not openly panhandling for your cash, the game is clearly still making itself unpleasant to the player, and needs some further rebalancing before it's considered workable.

Seems like now days any game ported anywere is on everyone "want to hate this because its a port" band wagon, me i care less if it was ported from a toaster as long as it was good enough to keep me entertained for a few hours. Good Luck Devs i hope to get this on friday

The sad thing is that on Android, where I purchased and played it, I liked the core game and loved the artwork. Clearly some of the devs put their heart into it. This made the tragedy of the in-app-purchasing, money gouging all the worse- it was ruined by the mobile IAP format.
I hope the PC version is good, but the android version which I paid for, was a rip-off, so as a point of principle, I'm steering well clear.

So, spent some time playing this, because I wanted to be sure I was arguing from knowledge as opposed to ignorance. It has no IAP's, this much is accurate. The economy is not balanced at all, and it still has a lot of the roots of the nastier elements of a free to play game.

Alarm bells should ring the moment you see the healer (a fairly useful hero) available for 25,000 gold (which is around 25-35 world events worth), and the jump in rank between story missions means you'll be grinding for a long, long time. Worse, the upgrade costs on heroes jump severely, causing you to short out on cash pretty fast.

Compounding this is the fact you're limited to holding only 5 of each type of potion (health and mana), anything else gets used up instantly by the character you have selected (this can be used strategically, but the first time it happens it's a pain in the rear). Revives will eat a thousand gold a go, refilling your potion stack for either mana OR health, that's another thousand.

You'll go through gold at a ridiculous rate, and you'll need to grind it back up, oh lord will you need to grind. And grind. And grind. And grind.

You get the point.

There's the soul of a really good game in here. There is. There's a core model that is actually really compelling. But it's been destroyed by the fact it was built first and foremost to panhandle for money, and it's not been resolved by making it "premium". It's been softened somewhat, but it's still making you suffer to get at the good bits.

While I don't nessacarily disagree with you Hobbes... one man's grind is another man's gameplay.

I really don't understand why people get so hung up on the concept of grind in a game... when you boil a game down to core mechanics, if there is any sort of progression at all the game has "grind"

If you "suffer" to play a game, you picked the wrong game to play.

There's grind and grind. Here you're having to do a massive number of world events before you even get to move from the end of the first story mission (where you get the thief) to the second story mission (where you get the priest), the jump from one to the other is about ten ranks, which takes an awful lot of work to get through the XP wall. That's not counting the odious, money sucking nature of the economy which constantly vamps at your gold which I've gone into above.

This is where the game shows it's F2P roots. I dug into it to see how long it would take, and we're talking the better part of three to four hours just to advance from "Chapter one" to "Chapter two". It's silly.

It's fine to play devil's advocate, but I'd suggest getting the game so you can argue from knowledge on this one, it's very grindy.

I find that it is rather grindy, however I also felt that some story missions were fairly easy without having ground up a lot of gold/levels but a few were a pain in the hind quarters, if you know what I mean. I did have one boss fight that I would have lost if I hadn't been sitting on a pretty huge pile of gold. It would have gone better if I knew I could pay gold for 5 health potions instead of wasting a similar amount on *one* revive. It's cheaper to heal 5 times, by far, than revive once. Don't like the 5 potion limit because you can just buy more. Remove the potion cap, don't let me buy them on the fly, throw in a shop or traveling apothecary or something so I can buy a few if I want to waste coins on them but have to actually go physically get them instead of having them magically appear out of thin air.

Still, it's pretty fun and I enjoy stomping enemies enough that, so far, the grind isn't so bad. I'm sure it'll get old after a few more hours... but yeah. Grind-ey.

i agree,
i find that if i go into battle with 5k gold or more it makes the battle to easy , cause you can buy potions on the fly. when i got the fire mage i was only rank 10 and most of my guys where only rank 4 to 6 but the enemy was rank 18. only had one death in that whole fight . would like a bit more of a challenge other then that im really enjoying the game so far
