Some Thoughts after first hour
The problem I am having is, in small areas, turning around to shoot moves you in that direction. So if you are in an area that is narrow, it becomes very frustrating trying to shoot at the enemies, because you keep moving towards them, while they do not have this problem, as they damage you by being next to you in melee.

I don't know how you coded it, but is it possible to add a function so your character faces a direction with 1 key, say using numpad to move and WASD to face your character? So I can be running to the left, but firing behind me? I know it is asking a lot, and would change the combat immensely, but I feel like the way the movement system works, with each push of the move key places you in another box. in a 9x9 square room, you have 81 spots you can stand onm and nothing in between, as opposed to a game like Binding of Isaac, where it is coded with decimals for the x and y grid.

Other than a few other bugs I have encountered, but found a work around for, the game is a very quirky, fun and altogether excellent game. I am sad that you didn't get a chance to advertise it more (I did read about your baby, congrats btw!) because this game has so much to it, and honestly, there are so many more things that you could add that would make it appeal to an even larger crowd (Building your own space station? If that has a ton of options, that would appeal to a whole new group of gamers by iteself.)

So, I am about to write a review on the store page, but wanted to leave some thoughts.

I would like to see the space combat be more fleshed out, adding a hull to destroy before a ship is blown away. Adding things like ability to launch drones to repair/help fight in space, maybe your own small fightrer from a launch bay, and add either a mini-game or arpg function to space in that manner.

I realize there is no class system, or skills from what I have read, which I understand, as the ship, and the upgrades do add to the customability of your character. I haven't gotten far, but you get mechs to go into combat with you, was there any thoughts on being able to hire or recruit marines or mercenaries if you wanted to go that route instead? Perhaps with their own equipment that you could upgrade?

I will end by saying, you made a really fun game, I do hope you add more to it as planned. Thanks for the quick patch to fix the pirate problem.

Hi, and thank you so much for taking the time to get back to me.

I completely agree with you that the combat can be annoying, during my playthroughs I often wished I could walk backwards and fire but I tried implementing it and on the RMXP engine it just turned out really, really bad. It is not something I've completely given up on though :)

We have been discussing plans to make the space combat more exciting too and none of us had thought of drones, an idea which I'm quickly warming too. I definitely want to add more options for space combat in the coming updates with some new tricks for enemies too, and possibly useable items to hack the enemy systems or boost your own.

As for recruiting more people that is something that we plan on adding to the 'build your own station' addon, as an extension to Oberon Bounties... along with the ability to breed your own space beastie and take them along with you. Unlike Mechs they will follow you around closely acting as a true bodyguard rather than just head off on the attack.

Again, thank you so much for your feedback, it really is appreciated and the drone idea is fantastic and we will definitely implement something like that to flesh out space-combat.

Hey, I also wanted to mention something in regards to the space combat. You have 3 ranges, far, medium and close. With each having their own weapon option. Any thought on making these ranges number based, so that different ships can close the gap or get away at different speeds?
ie 0-50 is close, 51-100 is med and 101-150 is far, with an avg ship being able to move 50 at a time? I found myself in the unenviable position of trying to board an enemy and kept moving away, and I kept chasing, for like 5 turns. Just a thought, although drones could do things like hamper engines for a couple turns, solving that problem.

I am also noticing a lack of feedback in reference to taking damage. There are times I get hit by 1 projectile, it says it does 400 damage, and that is the case. There are other times, where apparently the enemy fired multiple shots, and a 342 pops up, but I clearly just took 2k damage. Or if I get to close to the enemy, I just instantly die, with only 267 popping up on the screen. I feel like there is a disconnect between what I see on the screen, and how much damage I am taking.
Likewise, there seems to be some input lag for the keyboard. I am holding down the move key, and I try to quickly turn around and fire at the enemy, but I don't turn around, I just fire in the direction I was originally going, like the key press just wasn't accepted. Also when dialog happens, I push space several times, but there is a 1-2 sec lag before it let's me go past the text. It is kind of frustrating when it is telling me something for the 50th time, and I just want to bypass it.

I am currently playing on a laptop, not exactly built for gaming, as my cat threw up on my PC killing the motherboard, new one arrives tomorrow, so after getting my gaming PC back together, I will re-evaluate afterwards, as maybe it is just my computer with the lag,

Anyways great job and thanks for the reply :)

Ok, new motherboard, cpu and memory arrived. (Got the new 6th Gen Skylake 6600k) After installing and getting the resolution to the correct setting, I have noticed there is almost NO lag for dialog now. I can click quickly, and it cycles thru much quicker than on my laptop. I have not had much FPS lag, although the game does feel sluggish when moving. I believe that is how it is designed, but I keep pushing the shift key for my character to sprint, as I just feel so slow.

Maybe add a sprint, with a stamina so we can outrun some monsters to turn around and shoot, since they can move and shoot in different directions, while we cannot?

I have had 1 keyboard issue where my guy just decided he wants to keep going up, like the w key was stuck. I had to restart the game to fix that.

My biggest pet peeve is still the damage the enemies do, compared to what is shown on screen. I go from 2500 to 300, but it looks like I only get hit once, as when I am next to them, and they come onto my square, they attack me like 5-6 times in about 1/4 second. Maybe add a short delay between damage taking from merely being in the same square as the enemy?
