I completely agree with you that the combat can be annoying, during my playthroughs I often wished I could walk backwards and fire but I tried implementing it and on the RMXP engine it just turned out really, really bad. It is not something I've completely given up on though :)
We have been discussing plans to make the space combat more exciting too and none of us had thought of drones, an idea which I'm quickly warming too. I definitely want to add more options for space combat in the coming updates with some new tricks for enemies too, and possibly useable items to hack the enemy systems or boost your own.
As for recruiting more people that is something that we plan on adding to the 'build your own station' addon, as an extension to Oberon Bounties... along with the ability to breed your own space beastie and take them along with you. Unlike Mechs they will follow you around closely acting as a true bodyguard rather than just head off on the attack.
Again, thank you so much for your feedback, it really is appreciated and the drone idea is fantastic and we will definitely implement something like that to flesh out space-combat.
ie 0-50 is close, 51-100 is med and 101-150 is far, with an avg ship being able to move 50 at a time? I found myself in the unenviable position of trying to board an enemy and kept moving away, and I kept chasing, for like 5 turns. Just a thought, although drones could do things like hamper engines for a couple turns, solving that problem.
I am also noticing a lack of feedback in reference to taking damage. There are times I get hit by 1 projectile, it says it does 400 damage, and that is the case. There are other times, where apparently the enemy fired multiple shots, and a 342 pops up, but I clearly just took 2k damage. Or if I get to close to the enemy, I just instantly die, with only 267 popping up on the screen. I feel like there is a disconnect between what I see on the screen, and how much damage I am taking.
Likewise, there seems to be some input lag for the keyboard. I am holding down the move key, and I try to quickly turn around and fire at the enemy, but I don't turn around, I just fire in the direction I was originally going, like the key press just wasn't accepted. Also when dialog happens, I push space several times, but there is a 1-2 sec lag before it let's me go past the text. It is kind of frustrating when it is telling me something for the 50th time, and I just want to bypass it.
I am currently playing on a laptop, not exactly built for gaming, as my cat threw up on my PC killing the motherboard, new one arrives tomorrow, so after getting my gaming PC back together, I will re-evaluate afterwards, as maybe it is just my computer with the lag,
Anyways great job and thanks for the reply :)
Maybe add a sprint, with a stamina so we can outrun some monsters to turn around and shoot, since they can move and shoot in different directions, while we cannot?
I have had 1 keyboard issue where my guy just decided he wants to keep going up, like the w key was stuck. I had to restart the game to fix that.
My biggest pet peeve is still the damage the enemies do, compared to what is shown on screen. I go from 2500 to 300, but it looks like I only get hit once, as when I am next to them, and they come onto my square, they attack me like 5-6 times in about 1/4 second. Maybe add a short delay between damage taking from merely being in the same square as the enemy?
