Federal Corvette. Yay or nay?
I'm currently building up my federal navy rank to get the 'Vette. But from what I've heard from the community, opinions are very mixed, and I'm not sure what to make of it. I plan on using it for combat, but I also do a lot of core mining and a little bit of exploration and trading on the side. A little bit of everything. The Anaconda is probably an amazing ship, but I'd pick the 'Vette on aesthetics alone. However, I know 'tis more complicated than that. Tips are much appreciated. o7

You can use the Corvette for pretty much anything but I wouldn't use it for exploration/sightseeing trips, the jump range is the only huge negative aspect of it imo, but even with a fully engineered FSD and the guardian FSD booster you can get a 30LY jump range. Also you won't be chasing anybody down with it, it has a rather low top speed even boosting.

Obviously it outshines pretty much everything in combat with how you can equip it with a fighter bay, plenty of hull+module reinforcements, class-7 shields, multiple shield cell banks, and over half a dozen shield boosters. Plus double class-4(huge) weapons are a joy to use. With fully-engineered dirty+drag drives it's almost scary how fast you can rotate that massive ship. And if you want to run cargo you can pull all those optional combat internals out for cargo racks and be running up to 618T of cargo. It's also good for evacuations and can hold quite a few refugees in economy cabins.

That's manageable. My Krait MK2 has a 30 ly jump range. (FSD isn't fully engineered, but I do have a GFSDB.)

the real problem with the Corvette very short legs get an Anaconda if you are looking for a MultiRole large ship. they both have the same problem big ugly and turn like a beached whale. you will end up using your Krait MK2 more then the vette for Multirole. now the Conda is really good as a materials gathering ship good jump range and holds ton of limpits.

I guess what I'm wondering most is, will the corvette be worth the money? I can always make more, but I can't decide whether I should get an Anaconda, or a 'Vette. Cuz I'm pretty determined to get the 'Vette, but the Anaconda seems better for some of the things I wanna do.

If you're wanting to do the hardest combat missions (wing threat 8) then yeah, the corvette is worth it, but honestly you can do everything other than combat better with the anaconda. And even then the conda can definitely work well for combat still.

The corvette can actually go around corners, unlike the conda or the cutter.

Corvette is the large ship that moves like an FDL.
Yes it is a great miner, decent short distance trader and excellent combat ship.

If you enjoy flying Larges it's great. Two C4s is fun and it looks great.

I have 2 Corvette.
One for Combat and another is my mining ship. I don't use anything else for mining anymore because the other ships do not have enough cargo space or their maneuverability is too bad (Cutter/Conda/T9/T10).

Legend has it the first player to reach Hutton Orbital was actually just trying to stop at the nav beacon with a Cutter.

you don't need high jump range on combat ships...

moving between 'war' systems is most likely what you'll be doing. It's all within bubble so who cares if trip takes 5 or 10 jumps?

Don't "need" it, but it is nice when you're doing powerplay stuff and can make just one or two jumps instead of 4+

I quite like the travel, actually. I've gotten use to the higher jump range now that I'm actually engineering my FSD, but I won't ever forget the many times I had to stop at some random brown dwarf and get interdicted by a pirate who very suddenly stopped existing.

I prefer outfitting another hull reinforcement package instead of FSD guardian module.
Grade 5 long range + mass manager FSD will also get you pretty far

I have a fully engineered corvette I've been using for years as my main ship, most jump range you can get from a fully-armored+shielded combat-focused vette is about 16-17LY. The grade 5 FSD booster puts that up to 26-27LY and when going around doing powerplay things like scanning megaships or buying/delivering rare goods or powerplay commodities that extra 10.5LY definitely saves time.

I don't use my corvette solely for combat, but yeah when I do I'll have 4 engineered hull reinforcement packages and 4 module reinforcement packages giving me 4798 hull with 45% explosive resist - 43.6% kinetic res - 30% thermal res and 1015 raw module armor and 92% internal protection.
