1st death by Ship Self-Destruct
Aaaaw yeah, ran out of fuel, system warns of 5 minute life support left, I'm like "nah, this is taking too long" and engage Self-Destruct. XD

Is there a Space Towing number I can call or something that isn't other players and doesn't require an external website like "Fuel Rats"?

No, fuel rats are the only option.

That or make friends that'll come help. 🤣
Aw man. It's the year 4793, humans have colonized the galazy and yet not a single of these mofos can tow me, bring me fuel or serve me a drink at a bar?

A quadrazillion button in my ship but none of them is a distress beacon?

I mean, I know this game is dated but jeez.

A trucker stranded in the desert has more options than a dude in an advanced spaceship with warpdrives.... yikes.
I lost a hauler last week for same reason, only I did not self destruct. Was a bummer but not a huge cost to get it back. I do not know what kind of ship you had, though!

The starter ship. They gave me back one for 0 space dollar.

Bargain!
It's silly, it was simple delivery mission 7LY away from Chamberlain's Rest, the start hub. I had to make 3 system jumps to reach the spot.

The problem is when I got there, they refused to let me dock. It was a mining colony on a lonely cold rock. So I dock manually beside the camp and deliver my stuff. With no way to refuel, I tried going back to Chamberlain's but got locked in after the 2nd jump back.

I thought there could be another camp or something in the system I was in. Unfortunately, it was just a brown star and some asteroid belt.

Note to self: If there is a Fuel Tank upgrade for spaceships, buy that ASAP thx.

Most ships that aren't a Sidewinder have a decent size fuel tank. The Adder for example, costs 80k to buy (much more to outfit) and practically cannot run out of fuel unless you deliberately refuse to buy fuel at stops, or visit a lot of systems involving secondary/tertiary star travel.

There is a fuel tank optional module but i don't think it's ever useful. Certainly not in the civilized bubble.

Point being, upgrade to an Adder as soon as you're ready.
I like the Sidewinder, but it is a small ship with training wheels. In fact it IS training wheels.
Get 'em off.
If you do want to stick with the Sidewinder for a while, I recommend upgrading the FSD ASAP; it doesn't just give you extra range per jump, it increases your fuel efficiency too. Other than that, a fuel scoop is a better use of optional internal space than an extra fuel tank, that's really only useful in three fairly niche situations; using weapons with the plasma slug experimental effect, becoming a Fuel Rat/rescuing stranded NPCs in distress signal sources and finally, taking a trip to Hutton Orbital.

Buy a fuel scoop. The smallest fuel scoop is better than any fuel tank.
You know: you can resupply life support by synthesizing iron and nickel?

Go into the Galaxy Map, click Route Settings, and change from Economical to Fastest.
I just died because I didn't pay attention so I got stuck in a white dwarf's jet cone and lost almost a billion's worth of exobio discovery data. 10/10 would die again.
I had nearly the same thing. i wanted to grind imperal ranks. Barely made it to the systems i googeld only to find out that they only have med pads. And i.....big fat T9. LOL. So i landed my whale close to a planetary station and walked up to a guard. Had enough hackware on me so i woke up in prison. but my T9 survived.

Well dang, I bought 2 different extra fuel tanks (one I did not realize did not fit, so had to buy another.....). I did upgrade to a pretty decent FSD, too, at least. I also bought an adder last night but have not put anything in it
