This already exists. If you are physically present, both board ship from station.

If you telepresence you aren't "physically" there so you can't get out.

If one of you has a fleet carrier, you can both dock on it and board each others ships.

Fleet carriers have walkable interiors, hangars, shops, and captain's quarters.

How do you do that from a carrier? I couldn't even work out how to board another one of my own ships without doing the shipyard swap.

I do.
Early in the week I parked today fleet carrier got off and wandered around to the bar and the observation lounge and so on, and wondered if I could board the other ship I own that's on the same FC. The lifts seemed to only want to take me to my currently active ship.

The carrier needs to have a shipyard installed if it's not yours. Then you call your ship from that facility.

If it's yours, you have a shipyard menu in the ready room.

Oh, OK. We are at cross purposes I think. I thought you were saying there was a way of walking around the carrier and from the common parts of the carrier embarking onto a different ship. I'm able to do it via the shipyard but I couldn't find a way to do it any other way.

So how does that work if it's somebody else's ship that you're boarding?

If you are together in a wing and physically together then you go to the hangar together and board. You have to use a shipyard to swap ships between each other, there is no going to hangar x to choose a different one.

The key is both / all people who are boarding into the crew seats MUST physically be together in game

No, physically in the same ship. You fly to the same location, you both disembark, you can see each other on foot.

This can be done. From the observation deck walk through the door, when you see the bench. Usually two people sleeping, turn left.

This room has a table with a glowing ship hologram over it.

It is opposite the Vista genomics room.

If you use the screen you can select another ship, then activate it. That will change the elevators at the far end from the observation lounge to the new ship as a destination.

If you and someone else lamd you can meet, but only if you are in the same private group or are both in open and the instance matches.

Instances are peer to peer so internet speed matters, as does port forwarding on your two computers. There is a pined thread here on port forwarding if you need it.
