Anyone beaten Ultramarathon and any tips?
This mode feels insane. My best so far is reaching round 10. (I don't use any help with words just my brain btw).

Even if you use help, you can't win if you don't have the best mods.
Rare: sumbit 9+ word to get random common uncommon mods,
Rare: +5 to sold mods
Uncommon: sold mods will convert to plays instead of refresh
Uncommon: legendary or rare likely to appear
Rare: score multiplied to the price of sold mods (does not stack)

The first 3 mods will give you a literal endless. I just beat it last night and I'm continuing to complete the A-Z challenge

Downside is you won't have refresh
So might as well get the mod sumbit 8+ word to get random upgrade where most of the time gives you a somewhat a refresh.

Pretty demanding rng, sad to say. It took me a lot of tries.

Thank you for the tips on the mods! Congrats on your win too.

You're welcome. Good luck
Just to add to this, the final point threshold for Ultramarathon is currently 25140(might get nerfed). You need really good stuff to hit that point total if you don't have an infinite play combination.

Oh damn ok this maybe another achievement I put in the cbf bin
I got a combination of the mod that gives you new mods when you make a word that is 9 tiles or more, and the mod that makes mods you sell give you plays instead of refreshes. It was extremely tedious, but it worked. It helped that I got rid of some of the more annoying tiles and got my hands on * and ! tiles, so I was more often than not able to make that 9 tile threshold. Along the way I also got my hands on the E multiplier, the mod that gains +5 points every time you sell a mod, and the mod that gives you an upgrade for making 8+ tile words.
Chiming in that I also only beat it using the infinite plays combo. It took me 168 plays, about 4.5 hours, and that was after probably about 40 resets.

Without infinite plays, you need to be scoring ~5000 points on average to keep up with the number of plays you net per round. I don't think I've had a single play exceed 4000 points, and haven't been able to get a build going that could reliably put up more than about ~1200 per turn. There are definitely some combos that can get there, but they would take too long to set up and you'd run out of turns. I genuinely don't think it's currently possible without some form of play count abuse. Definitely needs a fix.

I did have a run that made it halfway through round 20 without an infinite plays combination. I basically had the modifier that gave me upgrades for 8 letter words, used it to rack up like 40 refreshes, and then got the upgrade that adds my refresh count to a tile's score. Everything was going well until I got to the boss round where every word cost 2 plays. I made it through that one but took a huge loss on play counts to the point that I had to do something desperate. That is to say, I made my 40 point tiles into emerald tiles and got the fragile emeralds upgrade. There were only a few rounds left (I had 3 or 4 40 point tiles because of the modifier that created an extra tile) at that point so I figured I'd be able to make it if I had words that put those tiles in the x3 slot (since I also had one of those modifiers), and that had a dot tile at the end. I was scoring just under 10K per word that way, but unfortunately, LITERALLY EVERY TIME I USED ONE OF THOSE HIGH SCORING TILES IT BROKE! I still had one left by round 20, but at that point one high scoring tile simply wasn't enough, even with the perfect setup.

I'm confident that, had my luck with fragile emeralds been just a little bit better, I would have beaten Ultramarathon mode with that run. It's definitely possible but it hinges on having some very good luck.

i beat Ultramarathon without an "infinite plays" strategy, but I was able to consistently score around 6k points per word by the end of the game with a very strong combination of mods. I had 2 scaling bonus point mods: one was the A to Z challenge which maxes out at 130, and the other was the mod that increases every time you play a special tile (early on I picked up some mods that would turn tiles to emerald or diamond so I could keep growing this one, I got it up to 235 by the time I sold those mods). then, I ended up getting four total multipliers that all synergized very easily with each other:

- x2 if first and last letter are vowels
- x2 if first letter = last letter
- x2 if the first letter is the same as the last letter of the previous word
- x2 if the word has no E

then, I basically started spamming words that started and ended with A to get all the modifiers to trigger. i made as many copies of A's as I could using upgrades and I was able to just barely win on round 20. with this setup, the points from mods alone would score 5840 every time, not even accounting for the points from letters or long words. most important thing is just being able to keep playing words that start and end with A, and don't have an E in them. (if you have a different fourth multiplier instead of that last one, E-E words are easier to make than A-A words and there are more E's in the letterbag, but since I needed all four multipliers to trigger i had to make do with A's).

(screenshot here[imgur.com] of my setup)

hope this helps!

Glad to hear I'm not the only one struggling on Ultramarathon, I like the game but think it could do with some balancing

This gamemode is hell. I'm fine with a hard challenge, but making it so you can only win with like 1 or 2 specific setups is kind of stinky
I just made a post about this. DIdn't realize it went THIS bad.

I had 2 legendary perks and used a word finder to send 9+ letter words every turn (as an experiment).

I still lost.
