The third game update for Sheltered will soon be knocking on your rad doors. It’s full of tweaks that should make the game a smoother experience (as smooth as surviving in a radiated wasteland can be). And we finally found the keys to the RV, so you can fix it up and take it across the wasteland to travel even further.
Change log:
Bug fixes:
Keep the feedback and hilariously dark stories coming!
Stay tuned for regular updates as we’ve got much more to come! Don’t foget to follow us on Twitter for the latest news.
Love,
Sonny, Dean + everyone at Team17
P.S – We highly recommend this video series from Paul Soares Jr, next time you need a break from harvesting people.
It’s time for a huge update… even bigger than the pile of bodies in the soil above your shelter.
We’ve been chuckling over your awesomely dark stories and they've inspired us to add some exciting new changes to Sheltered. You’ll now be able ‘end the suffering’ of a catatonic character (yep, it’s exactly how it sounds…). And when you’ve got all those bodies and barely any food, what is there to do but a little bit of ‘harvesting’? Good job we’ve now changed it so that characters will also become desensitised after rampant cannibalism. Dig in!
New Features:
• Characters become desensitised to cannibalism after repeated harvesting of corpses.
• Characters can end the suffering of another catatonic character.
• Other family members can continue crafting objects that other character has started.
• Binoculars and Metal Detectors are now craftable.
• Rat Traps are now craftable.
• Characters now explain why they are unable to use punching bag due to them being tired.
• Lumber Yard is now a discoverable location on the map.
• New art for shelter visitor interface.
• Audio feedback added to notify player that third task given to character is not registered.
• Various actions now have sound effects.
• Locations now have their available items randomised periodically.
• Increased number of scrap yards that can be found.
• Added sound effect for cycling between characters.
• Added audio to encounter results.
• The journal will now reflect characters becoming desensitised to murder after repeated killings.
• Added new background images for the following locations:
- Bank
- Lumber Yard
- Factory
Bug Fixes
• Tier 2 shower now uses correct icon at Work Bench.
• Players can now scroll through their storage inventory.
• Characters no longer become stuck when two parties return from an expedition at the same time.
• Added several missing translations.
• Parties no longer become stuck at locations when 2 separate parties radio in at the same time
• Player can now scroll through storage inventory when storing items found during expedition.
• Experience gains and level ups for characters on expeditions no longer appear at top left corner of shelter view.
• Occupied graves now save correctly after game is exited.
• Increased experience received from using punch bags
• Increased experience received for winning in combat
• Catatonic characters no longer have a text string in their hover over state.
• Limited the number of clothing colours available to NPCs to prevent odd coloured garments.
• Bucket Toilet now consumes less water when cleaned.
• Changed the stats for characters that are recruited at the shelter so they are similar to those found in the wasteland.
• The Journal can now be closed with the ‘X’ button
• fixed not being able to close the "locations searched" summary panel
• fixed several instances of overlapping text labels in other languages across various panels
• Fixed "owned" count of tools, food, water, books, toys and records when in the item transfer panel
• The jukebox now works and plays music
We’ve been overwhelmed with all the feedback and crazy ideas for the way we can take this game forward. Your ideas continue to shape the game, so it’s super important that you keep them coming!
Love Sonny, Dean + Team 17
Gameplay:
Added online leaderboards.
Bugs:
-Fixed an issue with expedition characters becoming stuck if shelter doors are left closed.
-Fixed an issue with items vanishing when transferred between storage areas.
-Added a localisation string for the infection status.
-Fixed an issue where recruited characters with food poisoning did not vomit.

We’re changing the way that you receive updates for Sheltered. We’ve now got to a stage where Steam and Xbox One updates will hit at the same time with the same content. We’re also splitting our updates into two types, ‘Hatch notes’ and bigger themed updates. The plan is to have regular Hatch Notes updates in-between the big themed updates. And each of these Hatch Notes will be accompanied with a short video, like this one:

Survivors!
As we explained in the last announcement, we’ve changed the way that we deliver you updates. We’ve now got to a stage where Steam and Xbox One updates will hit at the same time, with the same content. We’re also splitting our updates into two types, ‘Hatch notes’ and bigger themed updates like this one!

The Combat and Quest update shakes things up in a number of ways. We’ve changed the way the combat looks, with a new interface and new options. You can now steal from enemies, disarm them or even inflict a bleeding status effect on them. There are now quests where NPC’s in the wasteland will give you tasks, so look out for yellow markers on your map. And if you hear a knock on your door, it may be the beginning of a new scenario, a different form of quests with new tasks and challenges.
Alongside the work we’ve been doing on making new features, we’ve been targeting bugs and tweaking the game to make it an overall better experience. For instance selecting one of the female heads will no longer create an avatar with two heads anymore (not that we discriminate against that kind of thing!)
Right, it’s time to close the hatch and get comfy, you’ve got a big read ahead of you…

Keep the feedback coming and we’ll continue to do our best to make Sheltered even better. As usual we do our best to make sure that the new update works with previous saves so you can continue the battle to survive. We’re also releasing a hotfix patch today for the infamous Sam Smith bug. Unfortunately those that experienced it will have all their characters remain as Sam Smith and their characters will be white, but that should be the only lasting effect. Everything else can be upgraded again, stats can be increased and objects can be moved. Thanks for your patience with this one!

We still have plans for potential ways of improving the mechanics, but we think this is a step in the right direction. We’ve also made a couple bug fixes to fix issues that were affecting some Sheltered players.
• Breaches will no longer occur before day 50.
• Increased the length of time between breaches.
• Fixed an issue causing the game to crash on Linux 32 bit operating systems.

Sheltered’s now been out just over a month and we’ve been blown away by the response from both the Early Access veteran survivors and those that have just joined the wasteland.
We’ve been sifting through community feedback since launch and we’ve been hard at work on this update that we hope you’ll be excited about!
So without further ado, here’s the changes in this update:
• 1v1 combat now initiates between an inhabitant and a raider when they get close to each other within the shelter.
• New combat location “The Shelter”.
• Close quarters weapons can be taken into combat within the shelter if the item is in the shelter inventory when the raid begins. (Weapons are automatically assigned based on strength and damage dealt.)
• Traps now deal damage instead of killing NPC characters outright.
• Inhabitants can wear Good and Excellent body armour during shelter combat, if the item is in the shelter inventory when the raid begins.
• Inhabitants in the shelter can be controlled during a shelter breach.
o Inhabitants with the cowardice trait still cannot be controlled during a shelter breach.
• The murder action has been removed from the NPC raiders.
• NPC raiders can still steal and break items whilst raiding the shelter.
• Breach frequency has been tweaked to occur more often.
• Characters are no longer automated or perform idle walking when a breach occurs.
• Breachers face the door when breaking into the shelter.
• Damage text appears next to traps that successfully hit breachers.
• The amount of items NPCs can steal has been tweaked.
So you’ll now have the ability to take the raiders on but you still have the opportunity to take advantage of hiding spots or running away from raiders.
