Still no multichannel PCM audio, what gives?
GreenDude 22 Oct, 2023 @ 5:23am
New bug started around new nvidia driver update which is my guess. When my mouse slides to another monitor, instead of switching to that monitor pretty seemlessly, it now freezes up or gives me disconnect icon. the pc itself is still completely fine but the steam link app freezes or dc icon forever. only way to fix is just close and kill app and relaunch straight into it. ive been loving steam link and i use it daily even as a remote desktop app instead of chrome remote desktop so if you need other feedback or tests to troubleshoot dont hesitate.

edit: fixed by reinstalling latest nvidia driver

It's not just on the android client. I tested by streaming to another Windows 10 PC using the main steam client itself and only 2.0 channel audio is being sent. Something broke with streaming as this was working before.

The update completely fixed the audio cracking from the previous version, thanks for the fast fix and release!

Version 1.3.9 did not fix the cracking, stuttering audio that was introduced with 1.3.8 for me... I don't think it's a connection issue, since it was working fine for the year+ that I've had a smart TV and started specifically with the previous update. Additionally the video stream framerate and controller input delay don't have similar stuttering or tearing problems.

To me it seems a lot more like some kind of audio codec issue, but I'm just some layman who knows nothing.

So you are saying that the problem lies in the desktop app rather than the Android app?

streaming from the destkop app to another computer also doesn't work as you state so I hope they fix it up then.

If you click on the '?' button, what is the model and version information that's shown at the bottom?

This update broke the app.. Big Picture works fine but the app freeze and crashes when loading a game (any game), and no it's not my internet, I verified.
Please fix, I use this app alot when my family is using the screen and this update (1.3.9.258) just messed it up.
I use a Samsung S22 Ultra.

Getting two major issues streaming to my Nvidia ShieldTV 2017:

1. Very stuttery, especially noticeable when standing still and turning the camera in skyrim, witcher 3.

2. Roughly every 2 minutes, getting display latency spikes up to 170ms (normally between 10-30ms) and 33% frame drops. Ping time, streaming latency are at <1ms, packet loss at 0%.

PC (5800X3D, 4070Ti) and shield connected via ethernet. Desktop and streaming res set to 1080p. lowering res, quality, enable or disable hardware encode/decode makes no difference.

Essentially unplayable, any ideas sloken? Moonlight/Sunshine on the Shield working very well but would prefer to use Steam Link as it automatically sets the resolution (mine has to change as monitor is a 3440x1440 ultrawide)

Are you sure it's the app crashing and not Steam? You can look in the Steam dumps folder on the PC to see if Steam is crashing there.

If it's Steam, please let me know and I'll e-mail you to get the crash dump. If it's the app, can you please get the Android crash log using adb? I can walk you through this process over Zoom if necessary.

Can you quit Steam, remove the logs folder, start Steam, start streaming the game, and then send the file logs/streaming_log.txt?

What games are you testing with?
