could i customize armor/etc.? or it this just stats

Not visually, if that's what you mean. You upgrade capabilities for weapons and other tools with XP points, stuff like that.

thanks, the only games i obsess over are the ones that don't have sales, i typically only play action rpgs like saints row or point and click games like beyond two souls
