I thought when I bought the character I could get as many as I want, is it really capped at one? Why would Retora do such an inane thing?

What happens to equipment and potion boosts when you prestige a character? If they are wearing gear above level 1, do they keep it equipped or is it dropped or is it destroyed? If they have drank a potion with a permanent stat boost, do they keep it or is it reset?...

I have all crafters over level 30 and 15k gold in hand yet there is no option to unlock jeweler. Anyone know what might be the reason and how to fix it?
