You're a smart man.

Depends on the type of visual novel. You have kinetic visual novels (like this one, Planetarian, Shan Gui, Witch of the Holy Night or True Remembrance) where the story unfolds linearly, kind of, yes, pressing the next button or by selecting chapters/episodes. Then you have VNs that have branching paths, choices (the Analogue games, Long Live the Queen, chaos;head, Ever17 and others) and sometimes may also include battle systems or exploration maps. So it depends on the type of VN you're facing.

Do not forget that visual novers are visual novels .

I love books, I do not expect to have choices on them, and they are good as they are.

Kinetic visual novels are just like that: books that have images on them. Many people say that they are not really "games", which it might be true, but it doesn't matter as long as you enjoy them.

I think that Visual Novels are like Interactive Books more than games, some of them give less, some of them gives more interactive possibilities, some are illustrative some are animated.
But for me they are more Books than Games and I like it.

Yeah, you are right, at least from my point of view, the only diference with a book is that the book don´t have art, and well...you cannot choose your path

Most of the time. There was the 'Choose your Own Adventure' book series.
