Game Crashing/ DX11 Errors
Presently WIP due to broken steam code, I will update as soon as I can add in the missing info on #7 and #8. Sorry!

If you're crashing before the game starts or while you are playing we need to find out why.

Before you send me your files (And I'll let you know which ones I need in a moment) answer these questions, yes or no.
1. Are your drivers both up to date and WHQL signed?
2. Have you added SoD to your Anti-virus and Firewall Exception List?
3. Is your Power Supply and Cooling System working properly? Use GPU-z or CPU-z to check for overheating.
4. Are you running Mods? Are they all up to date? (ie – do they work with State of Decay without making it crash.)
5. Are you running Nexus? (Mod) (It's been known to make SoD crash). If so, have you removed it or disabled it?
6. Are you running X-fire? It's also been known to make SoD crash. If so, have you removed it or disabled it?
7. Have you tried this - Try this: go to steam library, right click on State of Decay, choose "properties". In the first tab go to "starting options"
8. Are you using SweetFX? If so, 8.1 doesn't work with Windows 8. And is known to make SoD crash. Delete it and restart.
9. Are you using Gigabyte OC Guru II on-screen display? If so, this has been known to crash your system upon running SoD. After disabling, are you still crashing?
10. Is your GPU Overclocked? If so, please roll it back to a regular state. SoD has issues with Overclocked cards. It stresses the system and causes crashes.
11. Have you updated to VCredist 2012?
Go to this location on your PC and run vcredist again. It should update to 2012 rather than 2010 \Steamapps\common\State of Decay\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2010\vcredist_x64.exe

If you've answered yes to all of these questions and you are still crashing, please send the following to my email (steam_support at undeadlabs dot com) with the subject: State of Decay Crash.
Your files are located in:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\State of Decay YOSE\USER

1. Save files of the games you are playing when you crash.
2. CFG files (These are your user stats / config files)
3. DMP Files
4. DxDiag (Your most recent one please.) Open DirectX Diagnostic Tool by clicking the Start button [IMG], typing dxdiag in the Search box, and then pressing ENTER.
5. Steam User ID – if you could include the link of your ID number as well that would be great.)
6. A detailed description of what you were doing when you crashed.
7. Your forum user name and a link to any thread you've posted regarding your crash.

btw i guess sweetfx only goes up to dx10.. so dx11 may be unsupported which may leads to that dx11 error. so no matter what, delete the sweetfx mod!

Hello, I'm getting a lot of "Save dump dmp file" crashes during the game. I don't even know what some of those things above like Sweetfx is, I don't use any of that. No mods, I don't OC, everything up to date.

I mostly get it when I take a survivor along to scavenge. Anyone else getting save dmp file crashes? The old SOD plays fine with no issues.

I had a few of those a long time ago but they were randomly spaced out. Haven't had it happen recently though. I figured it was just the game lagging too much or something since it seemed to only happen when driving or when sprinting away from a mob.

To be honest the game has always ran flawlessly on my pc since I have a beefy one but the crashes are making it difficult to play. I mostly play the old SOD, my kid plays the new one.

I've tried different drivers, different nvidia global settings and I just uninstalled and re installed the game, see if that fixes it.

Let me know, send me that dmp, maybe there is something beneficial in it! :)

Went on ahead and sent my latest dmp from long ago, just incase it turns up something.

I've run through the list, done all of of what you say but everytime I try to launch the game I get a 'ULLaunch Application has stopped working' error message. I only recently bought the YOSE and it's never started, always shows that error. Never owned the original SOD edition.

I've also tried uninstalling, making sure all files are deleted and reinstalling a number of times.

I've tried the '-admin', '-fullscreen' and '-windowed' launch options but still no luck.

I've looked for the files you mention in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\State of Decay YOSE\USER however the is no folder like this. I can get here (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\State of Decay YOSE\ but then the only folders are '_CommonRedist', 'Engine' and 'Game'.

Last thing, if I try launching the game via exe in my local files rather than through steam I get a slightly different error

'The procedure entry point K32EnumProcessModules could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll' But this then goes back to the 'ULLaunch' error from above

Please help!!

Just installed YOSE but it won't perform first time start up. A window tells me I need DX11, but dxdiag says I have DX11. Any advice?
