Rtsevents.xml editing help (game crash)
Hello, so I was editing the rtsevents file for the Main Story Campaign, specifically the blocks that involve the Bonus Survivor Pack that features Gurubani. I thought of adding the 5 Life Line story characters (Alicia, Young, Vincent, Sasquatch, and Vienna). The Grange Enclave members (Becca, Quentin, etc) as well as Milo Eldridge, Ray Santos, Doc Hanson, and Mickey Wickerson.

I tried to create new blocks that were identical to Gurubani's code block for these other 14 characters I wanted to add but when I converted it into a bmd file and put it into the game directory it crashes my game.

I also modified the characters.xml file and voices.xml file so the characters, their traits, skills, and voices are in the Class3 directory and they did not crash my game, Only the rtsevents.xml file I modified.

Long story short, anyone who is good with modding this game or has experience playing around with the rtsevents file and Gurubani's code, I would like some help please. I don't think can post the code I modified here (I only modified the Bonus Survivor code block) but if need be I'll do it. I'll also post the character codes I modified if needed.

@WillieSea, @Mystyk, or @qmjs are the ones I would be asking. Since The Alamo website shut down, all the reliable info on modding the game afaik is lost.

Okay I will look them up and see if I can reach them.
One of them will see your post, I am sure. They are each very helpful and love the game, so if they can offer assistance, I am sure that they will.

Okay. I sent a friend request so I can message them just in case but thanks for directing me to these three users.
you know you can learn from those that came before you too, if you don't want to wait, I assume you're using Void's sod_tools? check out his posts section, also there are plenty of mods where people add more survivors and tweak nearly everything that can be tweaked, like Koloblan's new heroes pack, https://www.nexusmods.com/stateofdecay/mods/329 ... might see it's just a typo or header not closed or something; I don't know if the BMD creator has all that much in the way of syntax validation...

There's no forum anymore, no, but there's the Discord server. It's not as active as the SOD2 servers, but some modders are there such as me, QMJS, Alan and some new ones.
Zero, I can send you a Discord invite if you want to join the server.

Edit: I had some tutorials on the forums over the years. They aren't really lost. They're still in my head, lol, I just have to re-post them again.
There's one under my Skilled Survivors Nexus page, an article. It's about editing characters.xml , pretty much how I made that mod. But others, such as how to make a custom character I have to re-write and post on the Discord at least. Put it somewhere instead of a text file on an old hard drive.

It will not be so easy to add characters from one game mode to another because the game folders are different, and I do not know if story mode Class3 has the ability to pull files from the Class3.1 folder for example.

I would assume the story mode folder is open to all game modes, but breakdown and lifeline may not be available to story mode. Thus creating the game error.
Hey @Mystyk and @WillieSea. I always enjoy seeing you on the forum. Please pass on my best to @qmjs.

Thank you all for the input here and elsewhere.

I don't know, either. But I know that dialogue files don't work. I was trying to add a bit more personality to the Lifeline crew in Breakdown and had to copy the files over and manually edit scenes.xml It was so tedious that I didn't finish and only managed a couple of Hawkes' and Kilo's.

It's funny, because in SOD2 they talk too much and I want to stop them from commenting on every container they open, whereas in YOSE I want the opposite. Oh well.
