The cutscenes are very long and well done, you don't even want to skip. Overall, it runs smoothly. Probably the best title of the whole series.

Fun, flawed but fun.

Devil May Cry 4 is the 2008 sequel to DMC3, and the most mechanically complex game in the series.

The story has two playable characters in the base campaign this time, with the young and hotblooded Nero as the newcomer and Dante making a return, older and wiser. It takes place in the city of Fortuna, the worshipping ground of Dante's father, the legendary devil Sparda. Things seem fine until demons begin swarming the streets, raising suspicion if the church might have something to do with it.

DMC4 expands on the previous gameplay by adding quick weapon and style switching, as well as sprinting for faster traversal, making it the fastest-paced game in the franchise. There is a large rift in gameplay complexity between the two protagonists, Nero having a more beginner-friendly moveset with mostly standards jabs and grabs, while Dante is outfitted with an enormous arsenal of different weapons that can chain into mindboggling combos.

As per usual, the bosses are just as fun, throwing various mechanics at you to work around, and the puzzles are rather elaborate, with an entire dice board game you have to sift through at a certain point. Where the game suffers is the fact it's unfinished. At around the halfway mark, you will finally be put back in control of Dante after having played as Nero, only you'll be going backwards through the same areas and fighting the same bosses you'd already cleared before.

Still, the game is plenty fun, and the story is enjoyable even though it's simple. Buy at a discount.

DMC4 SE is a great game with challenging combat IF you are lucky it runs. I'm on windows 11 with modern hardware and had trouble launching the game, crashes upon startup! Buyers beware that capcom has neglected fixing this issue for many years. Their customer support said i had to reinstall windows, update nvidia driver and other BS in order to run this game. Fortunately the community came up with a better solution changing the games exe hex code. Only took 15 mins to fix capcoms blunder.
