Crash on opening collection
Been playing up to unlocking some of the 3rd lowest tier cats and wanted to check my collection today when the game suddenly crashed. Tried a few times and each time i try to open the collection book the game crashes even before anything can pop-up. Any tips in case you have experienced that yourself?

Hello,
The save file loading up just fine and the game crashing only while trying to visit the collection makes me think about a corrupted installation. Try verifying the game files (Right-click in Steam Library > Properties > Installed Files) or reinstalling the game (your save file won't be affected).

If none of these helped, it might be worth checking if the same issues happen when loading the backup of your save file. Beware, it's saved every 15 minutes, and you might lose some progress.

This is the procedure to replace your save file with its backup:
Find the save folder, on Windows:
%appdata%/godot/app_userdata/chonkers
On Linux:
.local/share/godot/app_userdata/chonkers
In the folder, you will find save_data.dat and save_data_backup.dat
  • Make a copy of those two files in a different folder, for safety.
  • Disable the Steam Cloud Sync for Chonkers (Right click in the library > Properties)
  • In the save folder, delete save_data.dat and rename save_data_backup.dat to save_data.dat
  • Start Chonkers and if everything is restored close the game and enable the Steam Cloud again.
Next time you run Chonkers the Cloud should give an error. Simply confirm the use of the most recent save file.
Please, let me know if the issue has been resolved.
Thanks!

Just wanted to delete my post, due to a restart fixing the issue. The issue must have been on my side with the external harddrive being against kittens. Gonna keep it, but marking it as solved, if anyone got issues with actually game related crashes. Thank you very much for the quick and detailed response! Never seen that before. Guess there is no way around leaving a review on this purrfect game. ^_^
