A friend of mine gave me this game as a gift. He thought it'd be a game I would play occasionally. Boy, how wrong he was, since now I'm addicted to it.
Klei, the developer, keeps updating the game with more and more stuff, so it keeps things fresh. There's also occasional holiday events (Halloween, Xmas, among others), which adds their fair share of shenanigans to worlds.
If you like playing games like Minecraft with friends, this game will keep you entretained for a long while as well.
As with other games of the survival genere, this one has a fair share of mechanics, for example:
- Exploration
- Hunger
- Sanity
- Resource gathering
- Crafting
- Simple mob combat
- Bosses
- Farming
- Fishing
- Seasons
- Seasonal bosses
And that's not mentioning the fact there's 18 playable characters so far (4 of them DLC, but they can be unlocked with Spools for free, an in-game currency you can get by trading cosmetics for them) each with their own quirks and strengths.
Speaking of, there's cosmetics for the characters/items in this game. They can either be bought from the game's shop with real money, crafted with spools (Maybe not all of 'em, but most of 'em can be crafted), or given to you by a gift system (daily log-in, and 8 more per week for playing a certain amount of time in a world, either by yourself or with someone). There's sometimes Twitch promos that give cosmetics for watching the game on Twitch.
If 18 is not enough characters, this game has a great quantity of mods, which range from extra characters, to changing the game's UI in some ways.
This is a game that's best enjoyed played with someone else, but it can be played by solo players too. Mods can be played with other people as well.
Overall, I loved the game, it's greatly fun. It's no wonder I keep giving some money by buying cosmetics every now and then.
