Why do so many user levels have retina-destroying visuals?
Like for a game that is already very eye-straining, given the constant motion and bright colours, why do so many creators make levels with such extreme strobe lights? Like for example all those Nine Circles levels that are probably not even pleasant to play because of the strobe effects during the wave sections. I know it's most likely a tactic to augment the level difficulty, but it can't be very good for your retinas and your vision as a whole and no pair of gaming glasses is gonna stop that. I know you can just not play these levels, but it gives you a good glimpse of what the GD community is like to itself and outsiders.

Why is no one responding? Is this some top secret thing about the GD community that cannot be answered?
People think it looks cool.
Creators sadly don't think about epilepsy players; they just want creator points.

(I mean, there is a reason EyeSpyWithMyLittleEye got so popular.)

Indeed, "Wow, you must really hate epileptics." is something I've heard myself say a bunch of times lately.

I can't say for sure, but I've been seeing a lot of comments from people complaining about maps that have too simple graphics. Maybe a lot of people aren't as much interested in cool design as they're just welcoming anything that doesn't remind them of vanilla GD.

If a map destroys their eyes, people may not be able to get a good look at the graphics, but for sure they'll know it's not vanilla.
