Why can't I run HALF LIFE 2 off the original CD anymore? Why do I have to re-purchase?!?!?
Why can't I run HALF LIFE 2 off the original CD anymore? Why do I have to re-purchase off steam even though I bought the game when it came out almost 10 years ago on disk...
I've installed the game, become a member of steam once again obviously as I can't remember my old account after around 7 years of inactivity on steam. Installed counter strike source again, each time I click them it just sends me to a purchase link on steam, even when I insert the HL2 disk it sends me to the purchase screen on steam WTF?!?!?!? No I don't want to repurchase I want to play my old game. If your wondering why I'm playing 10 year old games it's because there seems to be nothing out atm. Last game I bought was sleeping dogs and it sucked was a linea free roam game WTF finished it in about 3 days so I thought...hang on games used to be good! HALF LIFE!

Half Life 2 did not come bundled with counter strike: source. Your steam account may also have been compromised.

I think you'll find it did...as I have the original copy in my hands right now...the copy from 2004 I think everyone that bought a copy in 2004 knows that shame there not commenting on this post.
Either way that's not important what's important is how can I play these games without repurchasing them via steam...surely I should be more entitled to the game as I have the original copy. I can't remember a steam account from 8 years ago so I created a new one, surely when I put the f'in disc into my computer steam should recognize it! I wonder if it's called steam because it's a steaming pile of...8-)

I just got black mesa and purchased the orange box for console I'm going to get my half life fix one way or another without paying you again steam haha!

Why are people trying to proove me wrong? I don't get why people on forums try to be a smart ass for no reason...if you havn't got the knowledge to help don't post! I bought orange box pre-owned for console off ebay so I paid who ever bought it first time round. I bought half life 2 full price bundled with counter-strike source around 8years ago...ON DISC!

Think I bought it when HL2 came out in shops and it DID come bundled with CS:source, and HL2DM

I got it when it came out, and it was bundled with CS as well, and HL deathmatch, but I had a "Collector's Edition." Anyways, that copy on disc you have is already associated with your old account, I assume. Otherwise people could just hand the disc around and have anyone install it for free. I recommend you try accessing that old account *somehow*, or contact support.

It sounds to me like your original purchase was registered to your old Steam account. Therefore I would contact Steam Support to explain the issue. I'm sure they'll help you.

Counter strike source came with Half life 2 DVD s if oyu registered the key you should have both games in that account.

There is a disc version of Counter strike Source but thats all it gives you.

think i will bin my game and never bother with steam again fed up with this crap you pay good money for something and just get stressed and waste loads of time messing about .

You need to get back your original Steam Account. As Mr_Benn says, that's where your copy is available. Of course if you create a new account the stuff you had on the old one aren't going to be there.

if you bought original physical cd why not install game from there on your hdd? you can play it then as you play any other game; additionally, if you like, you can add it to your library from steam
