Weekly Nubby News #10 is here! Can't believe I've already done 10 of these.

In this edition of WNN I'm going to be giving you a preview of some unlockable cosmetic items that will be available in V1.4. Though I'll start by announcing vinegart's nubby parody song contest championship event that will be live today at 11am Pacific Standard Time.

Vinegart's nubby parody contest stream:

Our very own Vinegart (composer of nubby soundtrack) has been holding a tournament in the nubby community for the past month or so where people voted on popular songs they wanted to see him do a nubby parody of. We've come to the final round of the tournament and instead of doing a vote, we're going to have representatives for each song battle it out in WWE on the PS2 live on stream! Whichever song beats the other up the best will be elected as the song that vinegart will make a nubby cover of (I will post a link to the winning parody in a WNN post whenever it's ready).

Our finalists are: "Gangnam Style" by Psy, and "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen. So, if you want to see gangnam style beat up bohemian rhapsody, join us on youtube to watch 'em brawl it out today at 11am pacific standard time! (vinegart's youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@vinegart3211)

Nubby cosmetics preview:
==========

Something that a lot of people are looking forward to in the upcoming V1.4 update are unlockable cosmetics. The majority of the cosmetics are going to be skins for nubby that you can use in-game. I was also thinking of doing alternative cursor cosmetics like having a lobster claw instead of the normal hand cursor for example.

I have significantly more work done on the nubby skins than the cursor cosmetics, so I'll share some of those with you today! This list is not fully comprehensive and there are quite a few more that I'm not showing right now.

If you were in the community back in November-December 2024 you will be familiar with these, because these were chosen as the winners of the two nubby reskin contests back then. These are all community made, and I'm excited to finally have these in the game!

First on the list, meet the rebellious, yet sensitive "Punk Nubby" by Rusty!

The future of nubtronics is upon us - take a gander at "Cyborg Nubby" by GoozBooz!

Next up we have a dashing gentleman by the name of "Old Chap Nubby", our victorian era nub by Jahck!
Next, the critically endangered aquatic species, Nubbicus Aquaticus, was captured and brought to the factory for classified reasons. Meet "Blubby" by ianokay

Getting darker - feast your eyes on this lovely monstrosity by sirpodzol (who also created the steam page art for nubby). Meet "Teratoma Nubby"!

Last but not least, this nub is made with 100% real Wisconsin cheese! Meet "Cheesy Nubby" by YcleptYC!

As always, thank you for reading! I'm very happy that the nubby community continues to see growth and that people are still keeping up with progress. Thank you very much for supporting my work and keeping up with the nubby news!

We're continuing to come closer to the finish line for nubby mobile and I'm getting really excited for that. No specific release date as of now, but our first round of closed playtesting was recently concluded - so we're getting there.

V1.4 still has a lot of work left to be done on it and I admit that I (once again) underestimated how much time this would take. With my priorities split 50/50 on the mobile version of nubby and V1.4, it will be some time yet before we see our nubby skins and all the other stuff in game for V1.4, so thank you for your patience!

this game is such hot garbage

like the ball legit just goes to the sides, ever time. no matter how good a build is it just keeps going to the side and avoiding everything. the rerolls do not work ether. this game legit blows. there is legit no fun in making builds if all the ball does is keep going to the edges and just avoids everything. unless i am just wrong and you are only supposed to use like 2 builds and nothing else than that;s is so lame. i like the surv build but what's tge biught of buying items that benefit staying alive if...

So, so many times Nub just refuses to hit any pegs and goes right for the sides to gutter out even when all it has to do is hit a single one outside of the first shot

Greetings nubblygubbywubblybubblygrubblys,

Welcome to Weekly Nubby News #9! In this edition, I'm going to be talking about what I've been working on for V1.4 and sharing the results from the nubby science poll.

Progress on V1.4:
==========Lately I've been working away at V1.4, the next big content update for nubby. I thought I'd share something cool I'm currently finishing up!

Meet "Jelly", the most involved food item I've ever added to nubby.

Jelly is a very special little guy. As of now, the effect for jelly is "Eat -> Upgrades cafe food items that are currently available for purchase".

Yes, you heard that right! This means that every food item in cafe nubby now has an upgraded counterpart, including the new jelly item. Upgraded foods work slightly different than upgraded items. Items from nubby mart / black market are designed to be equally as powerful (or slightly more powerful) than having 2 copies of an item. Upgraded foods are a bit more variable than upgraded items in this regard. Because the effects of food items don't always work with the "2x as powerful" logic, I had to get creative with some upgraded foods.

For example, the moldy sandwich food item that you can find while playing on balogna tony randomizes the triggers of all items in your inventory. For the upgraded counterpart of moldy sandwich, the tentative effect is: "Eat -> Randomizes the triggers of items in slots 2-7. The item in slot 1 is not affected". In this case, the advantage of eating an upgraded moldy sandwich is that you could keep an item that has a really good trigger in slot 1 to not risk its trigger being randomized to something less ideal. I won't share every upgraded food effect here, but basically you'll find a lot of variability in upgraded food items, further than just "twice as good as the non-upgraded version".

Ok, now on to the nubby science!

Nubby Science Poll Results:

A couple weeks ago I shared a poll with you all that asked questions about your preferences / dislikes in nubby (e.g. favorite board layout, favorite item, least favorite item, etc.). Over 6,500 people submitted responses to the poll, which is spectacular. Thank you!

I said I'd share the results in the next nubby news, so here you go!

For the most part, I wasn't too surprised about the top favorites and least favorites for things, but its still very interesting to see how the community is divided in personal preferences.
