FAQ and Known Issues
It's early, but figured we'd get this up now!

Many users are affected by the same problems that have potential solutions or workarounds, which is what this FAQ is all about. If you have read this FAQ and still can’t find an answer for your problem, do a quick search for other threads on the topic here. If that fails, too, then please post a new bug thread on the problem or email us at support@doublefine.com!

Reminder: always send your DXDIAG or OS equivalent when emailing support!!

We’ll think you’re the coolest if you provide us with the following when you contact us:

* A description of the issue.
* Save file in which the issue still occurs, located by right-click Grim Fandango Remastered > Properties > Local Files > Browse Local Files, inside the Saves folder.
* Your Steam System Information report, DxDiag, OS X system report, or equivalent document from Linux. We require the full report documents so that we can check driver dates.
* A log! See below for steps to obtain a log file.

My game is running very slowly/kind of laggy.

There are a few ways to improve performance:

* Go to Options > Graphics and Resolution Options
* Play in Windowed mode and resize the window to a smaller setting.
* Adjust Resolution Scaling to a lower setting.
* Adjust Advanced Lighting to a lower setting.

The game is doing something strange and random and glitchy and none of the specific things below help, what can I do?

Computers are fickle beasts and sometimes things go wrong. There are a few steps you can try that solve many of the random breakages that users encounter. If you post about an issue, very likely we’ll ask you to try one or more of these things first.

* Make sure your system meets the minimum system requirements.

OS: Windows Vista or later
Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo 2.4 GHz, AMD Athlon™ X2 2.8 GHz, or higher
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 4650 / NVIDIA GeForce GT 220 / Intel HD 4000 Graphics, or equivalent
Hard Drive: 6 GB available space
Sound Card: Windows Compatible Card
Additional Notes: GPU that supports OpenGL 3.3 or higher

OS: OS X Mavericks or later
Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo 2.4 GHz, AMD Athlon™ X2 2.8 GHz, or higher
Memory: 4 GB of RAM
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 4650 / NVIDIA GeForce GT 220 / Intel HD 4000 Graphics, or equivalent
Hard Drive: 6 GB available space
Additional Notes: GPU that supports OpenGL 3.3 or higher

OS: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, fully updated
Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo 2.4 GHz, AMD Athlon™ X2 2.8 GHz, or higher

* Reboot your computer. It’s a simple thing but it’s amazing how many problems this solves.

* Update your drivers!

Always ensure that your graphics drivers are up to date. A vast majority of issues will be resolved by this.

As good practice, you should usually grab your updates from your graphics device manufacturer. Here are the links below for the three most common ones.

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/

http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx

http://support.amd.com/en-us/download

* Verify the Integrity of your Local Game Cache. You can do this by Right clicking on Grim Fandango Remastered in your library, choosing Properties, Advanced, and then clicking the Verify Integrity of Local Game Cache button.

* Remove and reinstall the game.

* Disable the Steam overlay in Steam > Settings > In-Game.

* Try deactivating heavy background processes like anti-virus or malware scanners. On some computers these programs are so demanding that they significantly interfere with games. If this doesn’t solve your problem, though, be sure to turn your scanners back on!

* Additionally you could help us by running the latest patch with logging enabled:
1) Right click on Grim Fandango Remastered in Steam
2) Select “Properties”
3) Click on “Set launch options…”
4) Type “-log” (one dash in front of log) in the text field and click “Okay”
5) Run the game
6) Locate the file “Grim.log” next to the executable (e.g. by browsing the local files in Steam)

Please send the generated log file and the specs (either Steam or DxDiag) of your machine to support@doublefine.com. Don’t worry about posting them here—it’s easier for us to track if you email.

Reminder: always send your DXDIAG or OS equivalent when emailing support!!

Where do I find the Grim Fandango Remastered save files?

* Steam: Right-click Grim Fandango Remastered > Properties > Local Files > Browse Local Files, inside the Saves folder.

My game won't launch on Linux!

There are a couple of things to try:

* If you are on a 64-bit machine, run this command in Terminal to get some missing 32-bit files: sudo apt-get install libglu1-mesa:i386

* If you are on an AMD card, do not use the open source drivers. Those do not work for running Grim Fandango Remastered.

Remaster mode doesn't work! I have a black/blank background

Manually update to the latest video drivers.

If you are using Linux and on Intel graphics devices, update using the terminal.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

My game won't launch on 4K resolution!

The game currently isn't supported in this resolution. Changing into a lower resolution should allow the game to start.

OK first bug encountered!
Just left my office after recieving the message from Don Copal. Walked over to the first door on the right in the corridor (Domino's office), pressed ENTER on said door, and Manny abruptly turned left and kept walking into the wall. No matter what I do I can't turn right again. Playing with tank controls/4:3/remastered mode and running on Windows 7 64bit via bootcamp on my imac!
Also music seems to abruptly cut off! Rather than fade out! Not sure if that was the way it was way back when I originally played it! .

Looks like there is heavy mouse acceleration when using the Remastered render mode. Mouse works normally in the Original render mode.

Yep, there is no xbox layout. Any fix?

I can play perfectly but all of the cutscenes are super choppy. Is anyone else seeing the same thing and found a solution? I restarted, verified game cache, and played with all of the settings

* I mentioned this in a thread I created, but I want to mention it here:

Merge the two styles of Camera and Tank:

Have the Analog stick be Camera-related movement -- (also a full press in any direction makes Manny run/half press=walk)

and have the D-pad be Tank style, always walking.

Resident Evil Remaster does this and it feels so natural, and I think GF should do it, too...

Something else that would work great is.. (Mouse Controls)

while Right Click is held,
have Manny walk in the direction he is facing and moving the mouse left and right rotates him in the corresponding direction, tank style. Also while Right Click is held, Left Click is run.

---- Also, Is there a possibility that we can have an optional framerate limiter. I would like to have a cap on the frmarate, so the gameplay can (somewhat) match the cutscenes.

Also, resoltion options?

Thanks DF vic-- you the man.

In the petrified forest when trying to enter the car Manny just walks in place and I can't even go to the menu to load and I have to alt+f4 out of the game.

Same here, Manny is not there, just a shadow on the floor running around. Windows 7 x64 platform.

I just played around a bit, when I DISABLE this Advanced Lighting, Manny Appears, but leaves a shadow everywhere he goes, so if i run from left to right, then the whole screen is filled with 100s of Manny's and I can't see anything.

I have this same problem, too. Just Manny, no backgrounds. The game is unplayable.

[EDIT] The backgrounds do appear when I put the game in original graphics mode. It's only the remastered backgrounds that don't appear.
