Hi SE team,
I wanted to bring this thread back in case it was previously missed. The idea is a toggleable “automated” travel mode where your ship/camera velocity adjusts smoothly depending on the scale of your surroundings:
Approach a star → velocity slows to a natural star-to-star travel pace.
Approach a planet → velocity slows further to enable smooth planet fly-bys.
Leave a system → velocity ramps up appropriately for interstellar travel.
Essentially: large distances → higher speeds; close objects → slower speeds, preventing abrupt stops or collisions. This could function as a fourth mode alongside “free,” “spaceship,” and “aircraft.”
I think it would add a lot to immersion and allow for stylish, cinematic fly-bys.
Has the team ever considered something like this, or could it be part of a future update? Or will I have to keep politely waving in the void?
