Black holes in this game seriously creep me out, especially in VR
First, this game is STUNNINGLY beautiful. Even down on the surface of planets, it's very pretty (though we need proper 3D vegetation, lakes and oceans, and even cities, maybe, if the world registers as inhabited by advanced multicellular life--which could very well mean sentient life). The planets from orbit are spectacular, as are the stars and moons. Very, very pretty game overall.

I usually play in VR through Airlink and Oculus Quest 2 and the level of detail and sheer SCALE of everything when experiencing the game through virtual reality just blows me away. I hope procedurally-generated forests, water, and even signs of civilizations appear at some point, as that would be simply amazing in VR. Standing on the surface of an alien planet is utterly mesmerizing -- that would make it so much better.

Anyway, the exploration of the vastness of space in this game can bring great joy--and also moments of sheer terror. Case in point: black holes are unnerving in this game, to the point of being scary. The first time I encountered one, I was zooming toward what was innocently labeled as just an ordinary star...only to suddenly find myself at the massive gaping maw of a black void, right in front of my face. After nearly tripping over my feet in panic, I reversed quite a bit to view it from a safer distance. It *was* quite pretty, in a way, but I didn't want to go close to it. I quickly left the area and went back to a nice, safe planet.

I'd really, really love it if these were no longer labeled as simply stars. Just calling it "BH 3883SX7" would be fine. Yes, a black hole is a collapsed star, I know, but seriously, that was terrifying. I usually have my eyes squinted as I'm heading toward an unknown star now, just in case it turns out to be something worse.

Can't blame you, I nearly had a heart attack when I first saw a black hole

I think going through the spaces between galaxies at ultra high speeds is very scary too! Great game.

It does produce a kind of existential dread, to be zooming through the empty vastness of space. We truly are very, very small in a seemingly infinite cosmos. This game provides a picture of that pants-wetting insignificance masterfully.

Kind of the same feeling in Subnautica, just going in a different direction.

I was impressed too, a couple of years ago.
Now I've learned that there can be more to this in the future...

You can check the spectral type of any star before visiting, black holes are classified as "X" instead of something like "G2V". You can also press F2 or I think A or B on your right VR controller to view the system chart, which also shows said spectral type below the preview.

I'm glad you touched on this subject, Black Holes are absolutely beautiful, mesmerizing, yet insanely terrifying and I also get quite unnerved when getting close to one. I think the music change also has something to do with that 'atmosphere' as well. I couldn't even imagine how much more scary it would be with a VR headset, I'm here on a 4K 27" IPS monitor.

Yeah, it's horrifying in VR. 0/10, do not recommend without nerves of steel or a masochistic streak.
Same here black holes for me are fine mostly but a giant black hole with a massive accretion disk just terrifies me and i don't know why i love space and the vastness of it but black holes just make me shiver and go to a different system.
