Are the Lucid Plains just a biome you get with the Terraformer to use to get resourses form different dimensions, or does the biome have another use?

I'd been playing earlier in the day, quit for a bit, and came back to several issues: Many islands missing, all buffs/money/energy/electricity/inventory gone. It didn't completely backtrack as I noticed there were some changes I'd made to the islands left that were fairly recent and I had made after purchasing the missing islands. ): Anyone run across this, know if I can get my progress back or if it's a lost run? Pretty bummed since I hadn't made it so far before....

Not sure if I'm doing something wrong, but I can see I'm 'collecting' the materials defined above, I was initially collecting them from rocks destroyed in the 'ashland' as they were jumping out the rock, but then thought I needed the crusher, but since building the crusher I can see the materials are being processed but don't seem to end up in my inventory?...
