Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition

Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition

Can't play the game - "If you were connected to the internet" wehn I am online
Up until recently, the game would load without any problems. Today, I get an error message telling me if I was on the internet, I'd see game content. Also, the game window is small and not full screen like it should be.

This may have been asked and answered, but what do I need to do to fix this?

I have the same issue with the start screen. Very small and hard to read. I was assuming the "if you were connected to the internet ...." message was because of my vpn, because I can play the game, it's just all the text is so small I can't read it.
When you launch the game, you probably see in this order:
1) The 'Open Steam' prompt.
2) The orange and blue loading screen showing the game title, sunrise and water.
3) A dialogue box stating, "Revocation information for the security certificate for this site is unavailable. Do you want to proceed?" (Click on 'Yes.')
4) A second dialogue warning of a Security Alert: "The identity of this website or the integrity of this application cannot be verified ... Do you want to proceed?" (Click on 'Yes.')
5) The FSX menu screen.

The menu is normally set to the 'Home' tab. You will see a message in the window:
Offline page. ASOBO Build
If you were connected to the Internet right now, this page would be replaced with online content from fsxinsider.com. There you can find the latest news and add-ons for Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition.

This page used to connect to the FSX Insider website which no longer exists. The site provided product news, so not having it doesn't affect your game at all. It would be great though if we could edit this page to link to something useful or interesting. Just ignore it and click on a different tab, for example 'Free Flight.'

--------

The small menu screen is caused by the game resolution you select for the game. The higher the resolution, the small the menu box becomes. To fix this:
1) Click on the 'Settings' tab in the menu. It is the next to last tab on the left side of the box.
2) Click on the 'Customize' button at the bottom right of the Settings page.
3) Choose a lower resolution from the 'Full Screen Resolution' box. (I believe your graphics card may set the lowest possible resolution; with older cards the default used to be 800x600x16 IIRC, but with my RTX 2080 Ti card my lowest option is 1024x768x32. I have my game set to 1920x1080x32 for my monitor.)

--------

I hope this helps.

If the text/menus are really small, perhaps you have a modern 4K monitor and graphics resolution settings in FSX defaulted to the native resolution of the monitor and that's much too high of resolution for FSX. Those settings default to a monitors native mode during install.

FSX was built early in HTML's history and the size of html/text is fixed, the menu's cannot adjust to the higher resolutions native to today's monitors so they will be tiny.

To fix that, go into FSX Settings, Customise, Graphics Tab and it is Standard to Set FSX Graphics at 1920 x 1080 x 32 (or less) as that was the maximum resolution at the time. Or something close to that, I had a monitor that was 1920 x 1200 native and that was fine. Your graphic cards driver will dictate available resolutions. If you set it lower like 1200 x 720p, those menu's will be even bigger but you don't want to do go that low of resolution.

Cheers
