Diving Mask
I picked up the diving mask but now it does not show up in inventory. Do I really need it?

You will come across more of them, eventually. They are also noted as secret items.

Any collected scuba/diving mask gives you underwater time, i.e. each of them gives you +10 seconds more time to spend it underwater before you need to take a breath.

It doesn't become part of your inventory, it just permanently increases your underwater breathing by a certain percent.
