This thread will compile known issues & workarounds in addition to other useful information.

Known Issues

Error message when game fails to boot:
"File: SRC\GameTask\GameTaskBase.cpp(691)
Expression: ret !=0
Message: CPhysXManager::Init fail"
If this occurs please install PhysX either from the following game folder:
Steam\steamapps\common\Way of the Samurai 4\_CommonRedist\PhysX\9.12.1031
or by getting the latest version of PhysX online.
Runtime errors
If you receive a runtime error, please make sure you have Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86) installed.

Sound Issues
Some sound issues can be solved by turning the default sound format down:
Example audio settings[i.imgur.com].

Crackling audio may be caused by a compatibility issue with Xonar's GX settings. It can be disabled in the Xonar control panel.
No Dialog
Try running the game .exe in Windows 7 compatibility mode
No dialogue – Run the exe in Windows 7 compatibility mode. This has been done by a couple of people who are running Windows 7.

Ini File Graphics Options
You can change the following graphics options in the ini file:

FOV - changes FieldOfView in-game (excludes cut scenes).
EnableDOF - set this value to 0 to disable depth of field effect.
EnableHDR - set this value to 0 to disable bloom/glare effect.

Before reporting your issue problem please try updating both Windows, PhysX and Direct X.

Has this game been abandoned? I am not able to play it on both windows 10 and 11. Please help.

I haven't been able to play in the last couple years for some reason either. I'm thinking it has to be something Steam related, cause it never used to be a problem before and I don't think they were patching this game.

It still didn't work for my windows computer. I'm sorry. I hope you guys make a way of the Samurai 5

Hi folks !
It's my lucky day, and so is yours.
When i was launching WOTS4 nothing happend at all .
Steam indicate the game is launched , and moment after the play button is back...
One years later i found the same problem on Catherine game, but this time a genius find a way to launch the game.
Here it is:

( windows 11)

Go to the task manager and right clic on steam
go to detail
again right clic on steam and definine affinity
select only core 0 to 7

launch your game and enjoy

( but dont forget to set your core to max for the other games)

have a nice game !

My save game won't load. It always loaded before, but now it just stopped loading. That means all the stuff I worked to unlock is now gone.
