If you played this game 30 years ago, then maybe it makes sense to play it. But if you first encountered this product in 2025, you will be pleasantly surprised that this miracle manages to lag on a modern PC. Add to that the awkward controls and the inability to reassign the fire button to the trigger on the gamepad, as well as the inability to shoot downwards in this game, which will especially delight you in scenes with bosses that attack from below.

It's a lovely game.

Metal Slug X is an overworked Version of Metal Slug 2. It gets rid of all the slowdown that plagued the original PC release and reworks some minor aspects of the game. The lightning of stages has been altered and in some stages the time of day changed.

If you only want to get one version of the game on PC, this is definitely the one to get. The original Metal Slug 2 is a slowdown-fest on PC, while this version works much better.

The game itself is great fun and in my opinion equally good as the original Metal Slug.
