I thought the same but i was thinking on the MSDOS version, never had an Amiga.

I had the DOS version as well and that was all I could think of when I read the title and description... I loved punting that kid.

I had an Amiga 500 back in the day, but only game, and with walker in the name I can remember was...Walker![www.emuparadise.me] and it has nothing to do with the either Back to Bed or Sleepwalker (which I never played) But damn, I just found a video, I still remember those sounds. Playing that game over 15 years ago could have been my first ever encounter with a mech, loving mechs/robots/androids etc. since to this day.
Well, there's one thing these games have in common. You walk in them..in fact, in Walker you tread, with grace, like a boss..as a big Mech, shooting anything that moves. Just like that..It was fun and challenging. Memories..

(was gonna say K240, but that was more of a space building game/combat game... like civ...
mission impossible but they was crappy little R2D2 style looking robots... )my first mech game...was...

Syndicate, Alien Breed, S.W.I.V or Turrican...
(sorry i cant put my thumb on my first one.. but they was the ones i remember the most
that had some form of robot in em)

Omg Syndicate, I really enjoyed it. The original syndicate on amiga, and the FPS Syndicate from Starbreeze Studios, freakin' love it! I want a sequel :( sorry I don't think I've ever heard of K240, S.W.I.V (but I played RTS called S.W.I.N.E. on PC lol ) or R2D2..oh, R2D2 style, that's...a robot model from Star Wars? But I remember Turrican, too.
MAYBE your first mech game was THAT scary as hell game..SPACE HULK!

think beneath a steel sky was one of the first robot/cybory based themed games i played...
(sucks being 27 :P...to many years to try work out which was the first robot game :p)

BUT
i can remember the first game i EVER played
and that was boulder-dash for the zx spectrum ^.^
(or at least 99% sure),,,,boulderdash or dizzy the egg thats for sure :P

I'm from 86' myself :P Most likely never played Boulder Dash, but I sure played Dizzy...but on NES. Or SNES, I can't tell them apart, or remember which one I had. I never played Sleepwalker on the Amiga (thought I do remeber reading about the game in some computer magazine).
There is anoter game that came to my mind thought, that I played on the old Commodore 64, and its called Pink Panther. :D
