The game defaults to the setting your computer or console are set to. Adjusting your system's language setting should resolve the issue.

That would solve this particular issue but cause a whole load of other issues, so that not really a workable solution. There ought to be an override for the language detection.

Out of curiousity, what's the reason you dislike the Dutch translation? Do you think the translations are wrong or confusing? Or is that you simply just prefer to have the original?

I have the same issue with the german translation. The translation itself is fine, but since my english is good enough so that I prefer to play games with english voice acting in the original sound and text version, I just need the english subtitles for parts that are accoustically more difficult to understand (like tape recordings or when characters mumble, or sometimes use a heavy accent or slang).

So, this is of course a minor annoyance because it just takes a few seconds to adjust on every start of the program. But it would be nice if it was fixed.

Is this really your solution? Lots of people like playing games (and watching movies) in their original language without wanting to change the console language settings - it cannot be this hard to make the game remember the language setting...?

After 25 years of gaming in English seeing Dutch in a game just feel wrong. I can't really comment on the translation quality since I the only place I see it is in the menu when starting the game. Where I switch it to a proper language.

Why, oh why do you lazy people still keep defaulting to my OS setting instead of using the STEAM setting?.. Yes I speak Russian. No I don't want to play any games in Russian by default (unless they are Russian or at least slavic originally). Stop making the same dumb and irritating assertion over and over again! I've set my steam client language for a reason.

And not saving language after I explicitly selected it in-game is absolutely atrocious. I'm quite used to changing it on first launch by now, but this is the first piece of broken software I know that can't even remember the change...

This is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ridiculous. So annoying.

In the dutch version the pod list book is empty. I think this was just not included in the dutch version. Which makes the game unsolvable without cheating.

Hi Larsex12, that's a real shame! I was the translator for Obduction and the manifest was actually translated. Of course I tested everything and I did a full playthough in Dutch, and it used to look good.
Maybe something got broken with an update. I will try again myself and if it's also broken on my machine, I will send a bug report to Cyan.

I hope the rest of the translations added to your enjoyment of the game.

It may have -- but I'd at the moment doubt it weighs up against the wasted hours due to this blank manifest bug, until I finally gave up and after quite a bit of googling struck upon this buried comment...

That is, I'm sure it's not your fault, but Cyan has not fixed this as of June 2025 and for now that has soured me a bit on the game.
