How do offline earnings work?

I feel like I get WAY WAY WAY less shards and fragments when I turn the game off for the night. Like .01% of what I normally get. Before I go to bed I can get an upgrade every 20 seconds or so, and then after leaving it off all night I can only afford one or two upgrades total.

What part of the calculations aren't being simulated?

If that's the case, I honestly wonder why offline earnings were even implemented to begin with. Is there something later in the evil smash tree that buffs offline earnings?

Combo is taken into account when calculating offline earnings. You just earn less than you would online.

Sorry for replying to an old post, but how much exactly are the earnings decreased, without taking multipliers to offline earnings into account?
