+1. Not a bad idea at all - I've not played the game for all that long, but I've already missed binoculars on several occasions when looking out over terrain from a cliff or lookout tower and wondering if some dark blotch I see in the distance is a wolf, rock, or something else.

Or Devls, you see your arms and hand (press E button? or the Aim mouse button) hover over your forehead and then use a Zoom button to see far, close up.

Actually, I would like to see Mac etc, arms, hands (whether or not in gloves) body Chest and Torso, Jacket or jumper etc on. Legs (with the pants on, etc) and the boots etc on my feet.

Instead of just my foot prints. And invisible like, Not!

Or as third person mode.

Please.

Like marking points of interest on the map with points you can spot with the binos then filling in with charcoal? I think that'd be cool.

They said a long time ago that it would be difficult or impossible for them to add binoculars. I have no idea why, I just remember reading that.

The game already has some zooming capability when you aim, so I'm curious why this could not be extended to simulate something like 10x25 pocket binoculars - relatively low-powered, but still helpful to pick out details to find a path in rough terrain.

There might be technical issues with things like draw distance, or some things simply not existing until the player comes within a certain range - for example, without knowing the technical details, deer are probably only spawned when the player is within certain range and despawned when the player is out of range to save computing resources, and so they could not be visible on binocs when the area is viewed from far. Though this could be easily handwaved away by saying that they were just hidden behind, rocks, ridges or other obstacles. But sometimes it's difficult to add something in any code that you weren't preparing to add all along - some choices made early on may close a few doors down the road, without complete rewrite...

Would be a bummer if binoculars were impossible to implement.

Maybe they will be in The Long Dark 2?

Yer. But you can't do that for to long in this game. In real life, you would be able to hold it up just about forever.

Oh, I forgot. I should be able to lean on a rock, if bent down on one behind a rock of going prone, like you should also beable too.

Hey, all you would have thought in that "Ranger's Tower." in a draw or something, there would've been a pair....? Or somewhere else? Like the Trapper's hut?

I mind you get a Torch/ Flashlight, etc. So why not a pair of Binnes. Or even a compact size Telescope......? (folds in, on it's self)

Hm...........?

Good thinking out of the square, there!
just in to also add to the desire for binoculars. it would be nice to have an item that zoomed our sight but wasn't a weapon. even a spyglass or telescope would be nice.
