(I was playing Heroes of the Storm in Closed Beta, only found 2 or 3 toxic players after a month of playing it, but then when it went to Open Beta, well, I found 2 or 3 on the first day, and also a lot more griefers)
Happy to support them with a ONCE off purchase dont be so cheap :p
100% agree
As it is, it doesn't look like many people are even noticing that this game is a thing.
In any event, it's a fair concern. We have big/long plans for Servo, so we're going to do everything we can to make it a huge online deal. That'll take some time.
It's not really applicable here anyway as this is an RTS not a MOBA.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this viewpoint. I am a huge RTS fan and was just shown Servo today in my Steam queue and was psyched to see it had talent from my favorite RTS games of all time, the Age of Empires series. I've been playing RTS games for about twenty years now and have maybe played one multiplayer match overall during this time. I'm sure there are people who like both free to play games and quality RTS games, but to want both in the same game doesn't really make sense, imo.
The reason I don't play multiplayer games at all if I can help it is the toxicity of it all (plus, of course, bringing other players into a game world depletes immersion like crazy for me). I also don't like free to play games because I don't believe in microtransactions but I want to support developers for making games I like. Servo looks like a game I will greatly enjoy, so I want to thank your team for staying true to the genre's roots to give long time fans a game to look forward to. :D
A person should expect quality regardless of genre or payment model. If this games has a good single-player component then I will likely pick it up for that alone, but I like to play strategy games against other people because, to me, the AI tends to become predictable and easily beaten even on the hardest difficulties.
Honestly I played some really great games like End of Nations and quite a few free 2 play but so many of them went under / got cancelled because its quite a hard model to pull off unless you have a huge player base like dota 2
r
True for a game to have longevity there needs to be a decent number of people playing but the way to do that is to have a decent game for folks to play and recommend to friends.
One option might be for the devs to keep the paid option and make a f2p option thats only the pvp side with a "freemium" option for cosmetic looks to the servos (found for free in the paid version) but its a safe bet that as soon as that f2p went live you'd see an influx of the arrogant drama queens, trolls and other undesirables that infest every competetive game mode ever devised.
I'm fine with this being a paid for game and the £15 isn't going to break the bank.
My dear chap, I never said "better" community and the context was definitely regarding more population.
There will almost certainly always be jerks on the internet and in multiplayer games. I just don't want to buy another dead game like Starvoid or Leviathan: Warships.
As for "better" or "worse" populations, you can get people who are jerks whether it's a paid game or a free one. Some jerks just prefer to not have to pay. Others don't mind. I've been on MMO games where I've paid to buy the game and was paying the monthly fee and *still* had to use the /ignore function to stop people from harassing me. So, it's not like the community is automatically going to be any better just because people pay to play. Plus, some perfectly good people join games after they go free, so it's not like it's all bad just because it's free. Some people just don't want to buy a game they're not sure they're going to like because they don't have a lot of money.
As far as whether or not *this* game should go F2P, I can't say. Personally, I don't mind the $20 price tag right now, I'm just waiting to see if a Linux version is forthcoming before I buy it.
As it is now I am on the fence because of how much I loathe Stardock. Probably wait till it hits 5$ and it would still sit in my library unplayed.
No offense to the devs cause it looks like a really fun game. You just picked a horrible publisher is all.
Change publishers and I would buy it in an instant. Of all the publishers in all the world, you had to choose them?
I dislike free to play because free to play had to monetised to hell and back by putting many features behind pricey paywalls. I want to play a game, not learning on how to get around the system to maximise my in game money for better experience.
