Servo News coming
Hi guys,

Brad from Stardock here.

I have spoken to the BonusXP team on where they are on the game and when we can expect an update..

I apologize for how slow this process has been and how there has been a lack of news on this title.

I hope to have some news for you guys soon.

I know this ain't your fault so this is mostly directed at Dave. It is really baffling how we haven't had any news about this since December last year. BXP didn't warn everyone that was going to happen. I was vaguely told the studio was going to be really, really busy and quiet. Everyone here could only speculate on the precise reasons for 6 months of no updates or news posts, or how long it will go for. We had multiple threads of people wondering if the game was even still being worked on.

It's especially strange when you consider how other Stardock-published titles have been handled, like Ashes of the Singularity and Offworld Trading Company. Those were exemplary, really: both the developers and the publisher kept people abreast, and updates were usually frequent.

It's baffling as to why BonusXP (and to a lesser extent Stardock) would let this go on for as long as they have (with multiple threads popping up saying the game was "clearly" abandoned), and it really makes it seem like they just lost interest in Servo. I have every confidence the situation will be rectified, but it's not an ideal situation to be sure, and it makes one wonder what the long-term support of the game is going to be, too.

Looking forward to getting more news in any case.
Well, that's interesting. The game has such potential but... awh, hell, you know. It's a bit of a mess.

The support was excellent in alpha and up to about 9 months ago, I wrote a glowing early access review on that basis and the apparent fast pace of development. My review sounds like it is for a different game now, lol. A very strange move, I've seen beta patches that take way too long to come out but I've never had a company just straight up not talk about it for half a year 0_o

Yes, exactly what I meant. I thought support was excellent in the early days and then, all of a sudden, six months' worth of nothing, not even a message from a developer saying, "Hey, sorry for the silence, but it's really, really busy here right now. Don't worry: we've not forgotten you!" It's very strange, to say the least. Nevertheless, I remain hopeful that we'll hear something soon now.

Yes, we should be able to *finally* share some information soon.
Reliant39 11 May, 2016 @ 11:19am
Any update as to when "soon" is precisely?
godgiB  [developer] 13 May, 2016 @ 11:26am
Precisely, no. We will get more info out as soon as we can. I know it's been frustrating. We will get an update on here the moment we can.

Its pretty pathetic when the boss of Stardock has to kick the developer of Servo in the rear end to make him post in his own games forum. If Brad had not stepped in how long would it have been before we heard from them?

Well, the funny thing is that we still don't know anything. All we now know is that news is apparently coming "soon". I don't want to sound cynical, but at this point "soon" seems to be Stardock-speak for, "Sometime before the release of Half Life 3." ;-)

Whatever the reason, work is occuring on the game again and we can stop worrying that it might not ever come out.

It isn't surprising they have no concrete date for you. The implication seems to be that Servo was on hiatus temporarily, if so they'd probably have to work on an update, QA it etc. That'll take as long as the length of a piece of string: it depends and you can't know until you can measure the whole thing.

I spotted their CM booting up the game for the first time since last update, looks like internal playtesting to me.

I wasn't talking about updates to Servo itself, from a coding/development point of view. What befuddles me is the total lack of communication. You suggest that Servo was put on hiatus -- perhaps it was. I don't really care if the developers work on the game for six months straight or take regular breaks over the span of a few years, releasing the game only when they feel it's good and ready. I'm not in a rush and I understand that development can take time and things pop up that put spanners in the works.

What I don't understand is why they don't update the community here on what's been going on in the world of Servo. They just leave everybody hanging for six months straight, so that people start posting threads that the game is abandoned and reviews are written in which people are warned not to buy the game because the developers are nowhere to be found. The developers (or publisher) don't step in until six months down the line, when it's essentially too late.

And what do they post? That news is coming "soon". It's an announcement of something vague. What exactly is stopping someone from BonusXP or Stardock to post a message on the current status of Servo, explaining why there was a lack of communication and what the plan is moving forward (the latter can be used to make people excited about the game again). That would sort of restore confidence to those who bought into the game (many of which now seem to have moved to pastures new, considering the current lack of activity on this forum).

Honestly, what stops them is probably that it is heck of embarrassing to admit an omnishambles took place. I wish they'd just tell us too.

When we *can* discuss what's going on/coming next, we will do so. I promise.
Nukecules 17 May, 2016 @ 5:08pm
Honestly, take your time, I really want this game to be good. The concept seems awesome. But after playing some other games the past 7 months, Servo isn't drawing me in when I came back to it.
