It's baffling as to why BonusXP (and to a lesser extent Stardock) would let this go on for as long as they have (with multiple threads popping up saying the game was "clearly" abandoned), and it really makes it seem like they just lost interest in Servo. I have every confidence the situation will be rectified, but it's not an ideal situation to be sure, and it makes one wonder what the long-term support of the game is going to be, too.
Looking forward to getting more news in any case.
Yes, exactly what I meant. I thought support was excellent in the early days and then, all of a sudden, six months' worth of nothing, not even a message from a developer saying, "Hey, sorry for the silence, but it's really, really busy here right now. Don't worry: we've not forgotten you!" It's very strange, to say the least. Nevertheless, I remain hopeful that we'll hear something soon now.
It isn't surprising they have no concrete date for you. The implication seems to be that Servo was on hiatus temporarily, if so they'd probably have to work on an update, QA it etc. That'll take as long as the length of a piece of string: it depends and you can't know until you can measure the whole thing.
I spotted their CM booting up the game for the first time since last update, looks like internal playtesting to me.
I wasn't talking about updates to Servo itself, from a coding/development point of view. What befuddles me is the total lack of communication. You suggest that Servo was put on hiatus -- perhaps it was. I don't really care if the developers work on the game for six months straight or take regular breaks over the span of a few years, releasing the game only when they feel it's good and ready. I'm not in a rush and I understand that development can take time and things pop up that put spanners in the works.
What I don't understand is why they don't update the community here on what's been going on in the world of Servo. They just leave everybody hanging for six months straight, so that people start posting threads that the game is abandoned and reviews are written in which people are warned not to buy the game because the developers are nowhere to be found. The developers (or publisher) don't step in until six months down the line, when it's essentially too late.
And what do they post? That news is coming "soon". It's an announcement of something vague. What exactly is stopping someone from BonusXP or Stardock to post a message on the current status of Servo, explaining why there was a lack of communication and what the plan is moving forward (the latter can be used to make people excited about the game again). That would sort of restore confidence to those who bought into the game (many of which now seem to have moved to pastures new, considering the current lack of activity on this forum).
