During one of the middle-ish (I'm assuming) sections of the eroded beach, there's a snake like pattern with a sign at the bottom that says "Remember there is always a way forward" or something similar to that. To get forwards you have to go under little columns that are half your character's height. I got through these by holding the bat button in the direction I want to travel, immediately crouching and getting myself stuck under the block, and then tapping left to move that way by doing a weird slide thing under the block.

I say this because I've made it a little bit further and the next sections of the game really make me feel like I missed the intended mechanic and am going to have a terrible time trying to make it any further without knowing it.
