Level Editor: Create and Play Custom Levels!
We (BlaXpirit and sekti) made a level editor for Hexcells.
We worked together with Matthew Brown to establish a level format, and he released an official update to Hexcells Infinite that allows loading and playing of these community-created levels.
https://youtu.be/IBtp54vXHmw We started a subreddit to share and rate custom levels:
http://reddit.com/r/hexcellslevels

If you want to make your own levels, you will need to download the level editor. It is developed as an open-source project SixCells[github.com] and is distributed separately from the game. Installation instructions.[github.com]

You can see a demonstration of the editor and the publishing process in this video:
http://youtu.be/fFq36x8fSew Detailed information about publishing levels is also present at the subreddit

Join in and make Hexcells truly Infinite!

Looks good so far. I don't know when I will have the time to dig in deeper, but one suggestion comes to mind right away. In the background you should draw visual cues where the menu area, remaining counter and mistake counter are. A triangle and two rectangles in a light grey would be enough. Just so that one doesn't accidentally creates levels that "collide" with the typical Hexcells UI elements.

The Editor does not work in ingame-space, so its not like there is some fixed position in editor space that corresponds to UI elements. When saving the level in .hexcells format, the level will be automatically centered in the middle of the 33x33 grid. If it doesn't fit, the editor tells you so.

So unless your level makes use of the maximum width/height, there is no way it will get close to screen borders ingame. And 33x33 is quite a lot.

I don't think this will be much of an issue, but if it turns out to be, we'll handle it then, i.e. as soon as Hexcells can actually load custom levels and the positions of all things (cells, title, author, description text) are final.

Ah, OK. Then that is no issue, good thinking ahead.

Anyone technologically savvy should write up some Mac installation instructions and post them here! Thanks.

Sorry if you guys are still working on this update, but when can we expect to see this editor and the ability to play these levels inside of Hexcells?
