My setup: Windows 11 Pro, Intel 14900K, Asus ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5080 OC.
Error reporter shows:
What I tried already:
- Bypassed EAC
- Other EAC games working
- Repaired game
- Re-installed entire game on other SSD
- Reinstalled EpicGames components
- NVIDIA GPU driver is up-to-date at 576.80 (2025-06-17)
- Tested different DNS servers and cleared cache
- Tried the game with controller and mouse-keyboard
- Tried adding parameters "-d11" and "-d3d11" to arguments to check if that helps
- Disabled Steam Game Recording
Also filed now a ticket via https://secure.level5.co.jp/inquiry/support/fantasylife-i/en/index.php. Maybe that helps...
Did most of those things similarly to you such as
- Repaired the game
- Re-installed entire game on other SSD
- update NVIDIA GPU drivers
- Tried adding parameters "-d11" and "-d3d11"
- Tried running as admin
Hope something happens or a solutions gets found because this sucks lol.
Are you using folder redirection in Windows? (to have e.g. documents folder at a different location, e.g. network share)
Unfortunately I use Folder Redirection on a network share, I can't workaround this... so hopefully they fix it, or I have to refund it.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\EXPLORER\USER SHELL FOLDERS
because I removed one drive as well I repathed my documents folder (said was still trying to go to onedrive for some reason) to my local file and it started loading for me as well.
You can also change the path by opening Windows Explorer, right-clicking the Documents folder, opening Properties and edit the Location. It's better and less error-prone than editing straight in the registry. Especially for less-experienced users and potential to make things worse.
I purchased the game on release day (May 21st), and it initially ran without any problems.
However, after the first post-launch update, I started encountering random crashes on startup with the error message:
Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION reading address 0x0000000000000000
Sometimes, the game would still launch after a few retries, so I tried to ignore it.
But after the June 19th update, the game no longer launches at all — it crashes every single time.
Here are the things I’ve tried so far:
Verified integrity of game files
Reinstalled the game
Installed to a different SSD
Updated NVIDIA GPU drivers
Added launch options “-dx11”
Cleared game cache
Ran as Administrator
Temporarily disabled antivirus
Rebooted Windows
Tried every fix I could find
None of these helped.
Also, just to be clear:
I have never used any mods, cheats, or unauthorized tools.
When I tried to ask Steam for support, their system just redirected me to the publisher, saying they don’t handle game-side technical issues, and didn't even let me open a support ticket.
So I contacted Level-5 directly and provided detailed information.
Unfortunately, their support was... disappointing to say the least.
They kept insisting “We have received no reports of such a bug, and the game is functioning properly.”
Even after I pointed out that there are clearly others experiencing this issue (including this very forum thread), they refused to acknowledge it.
In short, their attitude was: “It’s not our fault. It’s just your PC.”
Eventually, they told me that if I was unsatisfied, I should request a refund from Steam.
But of course, Steam declined, saying I had played over 2 hours.
So now I’m stuck. What are we supposed to do in this situation…
No. I'm pretty sure it's related to my Folder Redirection (Windows native feature) I'm taking use off. The game doesn't seem to be able to handle when Documents folder is at strange locations... e.g. also when OneDrive is somehow involved.
Have you checked above if your Documents folder is at a weird location and accessible without issues? (Also ideally that Windows Defender's Ransomware Protection is disabled)
Also note that these type of issues can also occur on hardware defects.
Well... yeah, obviously. It's not their game. They don't have the source code either to potentially find and fix issues.
Maybe send them the official response from the game developer? Especially since the game publisher/dev clearly stated and instructed you to refund.
Yes, my Documents folder is local (not redirected, not synced with OneDrive), and “Controlled folder access” in Windows Defender is disabled.
I had already checked these things before contacting Level-5, having read the previous posts by others here.
I reached out to Level-5 and provided a detailed explanation of my environment and the issue. I also told them, “If this problem cannot be resolved, I would like to request a refund.”
In response, they simply said, “Please contact Steam for a refund.”
Just to be clear—this wasn’t a refund proactively offered by Level-5, but a reply to my own suggestion.
I then submitted a refund request to Steam, including a full description of the situation and the response from the developer.
However, the request was automatically declined solely because my playtime exceeded two hours.
It seems that neither my explanation nor the developer’s response was considered at all.
Of course, I understand that I played for more than two hours and that I do not meet the standard criteria for a refund.
But this issue started only after a game update, and now the game won’t launch at all.
My primary request has never been a refund.
What I truly wanted was for the issue to be properly acknowledged and addressed.
I only asked about a refund when it became clear that no solution was being offered.
I’m not seeking compensation—I’m just hoping that the developer will take this problem seriously.
Too many users, under too many different environments, are encountering the same issue for it to be dismissed as a "local setup problem."
I’ve loved Level-5 since I was a child.
It’s heartbreaking to see things turn out this way.
I wish I could leave some helpful hints for others facing the same issue, but… I really can’t.
My solution was: I bought a new PC.
Of course, it wasn’t for Fantasy Life — but in the end, that’s what fixed it.
