Stuff that took me way too long to figure out:
You can arrange the icons on your weird pad so you can put them in any order

Using the archer's dash ability (R on switch) is way faster than running

You can look at ingredients in recipes to see where you can get them

I didn't figure these out until I was almost halfway through the game, does anybody have any good ones to add?

Edit: I just wanted to thank everyone who contributed, I learned a lot of stuff. Some minor but very helpful and at least one that would have saved me SOOOO much time and frustration if I knew earlier! Again, thanks for sharing my fellow Fantasy Lifers

When doing the mini games that have a sweet spot, if your first hit is the ... you can go directly to the opposite side and that will be the sweet spot. I was so proud of myself for realising that, came here to post and turns out everyone but me knew for ages.
Crafting gets so much easier with companions it is unreal, to the point where I would say just don't bother until you've got a companion that matches the Life you would be using - Don't get me wrong, it is definitely possible to do well without them, but it's just so much better with.
I didn't know any of this. Thank you so much

Yes, these are great tips!

You can set quests including life quests as goals and it shows you on the map where to find them, which is useful for materials where you're not sure where you find it, like sapphires.

And when crafting items, you can click on the strangelings that help you and change their equipment without the need to add them to your team.

Oh god, I didn't know that about equipping strangelings! I've been running back and forth swapping them out of my team just to craft one thing, thanks!

100% on this, so, so much. I've yet to actually find an alchemy buddy that it was my only class with ♥♥♥♥♥♥ gear. Found an alchemist phantom buddy in Ginormosia and finally was able to get a decent flask to upgrade my skills.

Yeah, after seeing the power I got just from the one carpenter strangeling we get from the story I decided to simply not craft at and just ran around on the huge continent to get all he strangelings I can get until I got 2 per crraftign life and I then put the most important ones in my team first to get them to 5 hearts. And once I finished doing that I nearly always get a perfect on my crafts and I now have all of them at the master rank.

On this point: With fishing, the 'sweet spot' appears to land between two of the notches your arrow can land on while the '...' only seems to land on the further of the diametrically opposite side- so it's more generous than it seems initially but can also be a little misleading if you aren't checking in a consistent pattern. Since boss fish will deplete their escape bar really fast and cause you to panic and lose time if if takes too long to find, you're better off searching in a 'peace sign' like pattern to maximize the effectiveness of searching.

So if you visualize the fishing gauge is a clock, you check 12, 4, and 8 positions. Since it lands between numbers this means checking 12 should tell you if it's on or between the numbers 11-12-1. If it's not the spot or the ... you don't need to re-check 11 or 1, they can only reveal they are the miss now, they'll never be the sweet spot unless the spot is between them and their further neighbor (1-2 or 10-11). Checking 10 will only reveal new info if the sweet spot lands on either side of 10 or if the miss is directly on 10, meaning the sweet spot would be on 3-4 - anything else and you're potentially wasting time just to reconfirm it's not on 11. We already got info on 11 by checking 12, so checking 8 will give you info if it's on 9-8-7 and 4 gives you 3-4-5. So in just 3 guesses you can check 9 out of 12 spots to get either the hit or miss.

If none of those spots are either the hit OR miss, it is almost guaranteed to be 6, because if it's 10 you'll get a miss searching 4 and if it's 2 you'll get a miss searching 8.

Now I don't know that it's actually 100% fool-proof, I haven't like datamined the numbers or anything it's just my passive observation and there might be some other logic to it, but it's a good rule of thumb that's VASTLY improved my consistency at catching the gold crown fish. I haven't had a single one escape since I started applying this search method, and I'm consistently fishing up ones +15 levels over my level easily.
I've learned about how to remove and locate markers in the map.

But the credit it's not mine, I learned from this post!

Sorry but this is very misleading because there are 16 spaces (not 12) so translating those 16 spaces into the 12 hours on a clock is not going to be good advice for everyone. That and you'd be wasting time going all the way around the board when you only need to check half of it (the other half is covered by the "...").

When you're fishing, check start, go right 3 spaces, check, go right 3, check. You'll find it in 3 every time max. If you find '...' you know it's 8 to the right (opposite side) and if you find "!!' you're on it (obviously).

Crafting Buddies can sometimes restore your SP, so it's a good idea to take at least one with you when you're on a gathering spree.

This is one I only recently learned: Events in Ginormosia have a hidden timer. The faster you complete them, the more points you get. So for legendary events, if you do them fast enough you can get up to 1000 points. If you do them too slow then it can be as little as 100. In other words, always try to complete the events as quickly as possible.

I didn't know most of these, I'm learning a lot, thanks everyone
you can sit in a spot in the main game and use the 'door' to ginormosia to save that location, great for farming 5 minute timer items later in the game. Adventuring in Gino makes that 5 mins SUPER quick and you can also craft etc.

Something I didn't find out until way late into the game is you can actually fast travel out of caves and dungeons by using the dpad while in the map. I would always cheese it using gino lol.

All events have a chance to roll a legendary in gino after certain ranks are unlocked, but you don't have to have the rank equipped to get them. You can easily set most areas to level 1 and farm level 40 legendaries super easily.

On the not of rolling events, they reroll every time you enter gino, which includes when you switch area ranks. If you don't mind a little cheese you can swap ranks to farm legendaries and save yourself a lot of time.

What do you mean by the door to Ginormosia?
