How do you crank up the difficulty?

I cant find find any way to do so. It just lets me pick a campaign but not change how hardc it is

i remeber playing this game circa year 2000 ish and changing difficulty then before a campaign. where is this feature please?

It is added in Mod
So only for Complete Edition

when you choose a campaign, you have to go to advanced options before clicking play. It should show you chess figures, each one represents a different difficulty.

how do you get to advance options screen before starting scenario? once in the campaign i check "options" and there is not a difficuty switch?

What you mean advance? When you pick scenario you can switch difficulty and AI handicap (AI is getting less resources).
but for campaign you can't. This is not Complete Edition with mods.
