In 2025, this game is the definition of gate-keeping. You would like to join a cabal? You are at a whim and schedule of cabal-leaders. You would like to enjoy one of the empowerment classes? Same issue - you need one of the immortals (there are not many, each has several religions) to align with your schedule. And all of this is assuming you can survive an extremely steep learning curve. In the end, from the modern perspective, Carrion Fields does not respect your time. You've been warned....

Wow. I must admit to being stunned to see a MUD still running around. I remember playing these back in the 90's. I wish the devs the best of luck in this. It might be too much of a nostalgia trip to hop into this (especially if I see a Beastly Fido, or get Argle Bargle Glyph Gloph? as a response to a command the game doesn't recognize), but I'll consider it. Right now, though, I need to go have a cup of tea and process how old seeing this just made me feel. ...

Game was severely obscure on what a player's first action should be. As there is a command line, I type 'help', upon which I am asked if I think that's a unique name, I answer in the negative, and the software closes connection. With that kind of service the claim of making MUDs more accessible seems laughable, and marred by decades outdated user-friendliness. In addition, when I quit a game I expect it to shut down, not hang for 5 minutes....

So I've played some admittedly toxic RPIs (Sindome, Armageddon, Harshlands) And despite the obvious issues those games had, I do prefer the higher standard of roleplay, how does that work with this? I've honestly been looking to try new muds but it's hard to find ones that also prioritise roleplay over just mechanics or being a completely mush experience. Also this might be a more game-y question over roleplay, but a couple of my friends were also looking at this game. How does more co-operative gameplay ...
