I'm going to be talking about campagin. Multiplayer is just multiplayer heists. Pretty straightforward.
After having beaten the story on Extreme I could easily say it has been a while since I had this much fun playing a game. Although beaware it is mainly due to a certain combinations of things that I like many people won't. This is a super unique game for a super unique taste.

Crudely to put it, Imagine a roleplaying rougelike board game where it requires you to partake in the battles and some plans you initiate on the board in person. Your capability in these missions will determine if your action will be a contribution or the opposite. To enjoy this game, you will need to enjoy decision making, strategy and LEARNING as you play (super important). Going through tons of trial and error to figure out how to consistently get good outcomes from missions to better yourself is a part of the fun, becoming more capable through your internal knowledge rather than in-game buffs and bonuses. (even though they do exist they mostly help out) Personally I like games that rely on my mechanical capability more than anything, which is another reason why I liked this game this much. I can't just "equip a meta OP build" for my campagin, I actually need to get good but the difference between another roguelike game and Crime boss is, in other rogue-like games, where you'd learn enemy attack patterns, in here, you'll be learning how to cleanly complete missions, consistently. You will enjoy a 'good run' and must be willing to let go if you goof and watch as the game wipes your hours of work the ♥♥♥♥ out, plus you should know that your runs can be quite long in this game.

As expected in games like these you must be okay with some degree of repetition. The game however does a really good job to consistently pull out new elements to keep you engaged. Level variety is very good even though it is the "same level" it doesn't feel to be. The general principle of completion more or less remains the same but not on a 1:1 scale. Things change in a way where you just need to adapt. (interior design, sometimes layout, guard civ and camera positions...) Which for me were different enough to keep the engagement as I will try it as hard as I did the first time. At no point I felt as if I was autopiloting. I simply knew the "main premise" and how a mission will generally play out.

Because your campagin hangs on a balance, it helps me remain as engaged as I could be while playing it. I found this game engaging and as you get to mid-late game you get some stuff pop out that's besides robbing places and attacking gang territories. This could be a unique character story or a lead on some big heist. Which are good attention grabbers to reset your attentionspan.

Last words...
The game does have bugs still, AI can be a VERY retarded on loud. If you get thrown a grenade by the enemy they could decide to charge into them instead of falling back degree retarded. You tell them to camp and they keep pushing out the vault or whatever space you normally want to camp in. They pretty much don't have any coding for survivability and for some reason they somewhat value charging into enemies more than sticking close to you. If AI was coded the otherway around I believe majority of the problems could be easier to manage. The way it is, I can't tell them to "follow" and then "stay" because they care about other stuff more than those two crucial commands which would allow me to ensure their survival personally and I could gloss over them standing in the open if I were to not do that. Though the problem is, I outright can't so easily. Game does have its flaws with bugs which are neither common nor rare.

In the end. I genuinely had fun and I don't see myself having the same kind on another game.
(this is due to my specific taste in specific games and crimeboss being a mixture of them all)

easily worth the money

I'm ashamed to say this but they did it way better than payday 3 and It gets a lot more love from the developers.
the dialogues gets cheesy from time to time but daaamn the game is fun and I have a soft spot for heist type of games.
I would totally recommend and its worth the price since they gave the DLCs for free.
