Shinigami Puzzle Jank?

Is this minigame jank af for anyone else? I grab a key and then I have to hammer the launch button at the letter dozens of times for it to take, trying to rub it on every corner of the letter. Trying to perfect the Mystery Dungeons would be a nightmare because of this minigame and I've lost multiple times despite knowing the answer because it just refused to find the sweet spot to launch the key and I ran out of time as slow as the barrel spins. Is it SUPPOSED to be this janky and hard to hit or is there user error on my end?

If you're having trouble with the barrel, it's recommended to use skill points for the abilities Speed and (incorrect) Letter Removal.
I also had a few problems, especially with the Nail Man case where a "Angelschnur" was mentioned, but the solution was simply "Faden."
(I played the German version)
Sometimes you just get confused.
PS: To select the letters, you have to press "Y" if you're playing with an Xbox GamePad.

In the end I had to hook up a mouse and use it exclusively for the Shinigami Puzzle segments. Everything else worked perfectly fine on controller but it didn't matter how I tried to do this, the keys either fired at random or far more often simply didn't fire at all. It wasn't figuring out the solution that was an issue, it was actually getting the keys to fire at the letters/numbers.

Thankfully hooking up a mouse negated this as the controls for PC worked fine. It was a bit awkward having to unhook my controller to plug in a mouse every time this happened but it thankfully wasn't game breaking and the closer you got to the end of the game the fewer Shinigami Puzzle segments there were anyway.
