"War never changes" but in almost possible Dostoevsky way. (The game is good but the book is mid, or the translation are sucked)

I played this years on console and it was a GREAT game, probably 10/10 for a first person shooter game, though it's a bit more than just a FPS, of course. A bit of survival horror too.

Very nice graphics even when I played it on console (360 I think it was) and stuff like putting your gas mask on/off, wiping blood or water droplets from your gas mask visor, your visor getting cracked and damaged during combat... There were even animations for opening doors and I just love all that good ♥♥♥♥. There's so much of that.

The atmosphere is through the roof. Combat is challenging but feels so real and satisfying. There's a bit of stealth. There's a morality system which can influence the ending a bit. So many great moments. That's how I remember this game. That's why I decided to buy it again on Steam.

Now I haven't played the original on Steam yet (decided I'd play the Redux version first) and it's obviously this Redux version that I'm reviewing and not the game itself. The game is a 10/10, in my opinion, but this Redux version or maybe it's just the usual PC/console port, half assed experience we're used to (maybe the original is better, I don't know yet) was pretty terrible.

First of all, you have long as heck legal/intro screens and a second unskippable scene before you can even reach the main menu. Secondly, not sure why every enemy took almost half a magazine to kill which led to getting gang banged while reloading since many times the game will throw heaps of enemies at you. Something's changed or maybe I'm just getting older and slower. Thirdly, the game crashes so much and randomly that I almost gave up with it and lastly, the performance was just icky as if it was locked at 30 FPS or something. Anything but buttery smooth. I don't recall any of these issues being present when I played it on console all those years ago. YMMV.

Safest bet may be buying the original.
